Vinny Giles

Won the 2009 USGA Senior Amateur with a 1-up victory over John Grace at Beverly Country Club in Chicago, Ill., to become fully exempt for the 2010 U.S. Senior Open. Has played in eight U.S. Senior Opens, finishing as low amateur in 1993, 1996 and 1997. Best finish in the U.S. Senior Open is tied for 35th in 1993. Won the 1972 U.S. Amateur at Charlotte (N.C.) C.C. after finishing runner-up in 1967, 1968 and 1969. His 37 years between championship wins is the most in USGA history. Joined William C. Campbell as the only players to have won a U.S. Amateur and USGA Senior Amateur title. Played on four USA Walker Cup Teams (1969, 1971, 1973, 1975), going 8-2-5 overall and leading the team to three victories. Also captained the 1993 USA Walker Cup Team to victory. Has played in nine Masters, making the cut in three and finishing as low amateur in 1968, tying for 22nd. Was also low amateur in the 1973 U.S. Open, finishing 17th. Won the British Amateur in 1975. Captured the Virginia State Amateur seven times and the Virginia Open three times. Made a hole-in-one at the par-4 17th at Oakmont Country Club, the only person to ever do so. Is a member of the Virginia Golf Hall of Fame. Served on the Executive Committee of the Virginia State Golf Association for more than 20 years.
