Angela Stanford

Started playing golf at age 10. Credits her dad, who introduced her to the game, golf instructor Amy Fox (an LPGA Teaching and Club Professional), TCU coach Angie Larkin and Mike Wright as the individuals most influencing her career. Angela likes to go shopping, watch movies, play sports, and watch ESPN and SportsCenter when she's not playing golf. Was a member of the LPGA Player Executive Committee from 2007-08. Established The Angela Stanford Foundation in 2009 to fund scholarships for Texas students whose families have been affected by cancer. Her mother, who is a breast cancer survivor, is the person she admires most. Big Texas Rangers and TCU football fan.
Growing up in Texas, she began collecting golf accolades early, winning the Fort Worth Girls Championship four times, the 1996 Texas State 4A High School Championship, and the 1996 PING Texas State Junior Championship. � While at Texas Christian University, won nine collegiate tournaments, and was a four-time All-American and a four-time All-Western Athletic Conference (WAC) selection. Named 1997 WAC Freshman of the Year and 1999 WAC Player of the Year. Was a member of the 2000 USA Curtis Cup Team, a semifinalist at the British Amateur Championship, and winner of the 2000 WAC Championship.
In 2000, turned professional and won the Futures Tour Championship. T-4th at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament to earn exempt status for the 2001 LPGA season.
In 2001, best finish was a T15 at the Giant Eagle LPGA Classic.
In 2002, best finish was runner-up at the First Union Betsy King Classic.
In 2003, became a first-time winner at the ShopRite LPGA Classic, where she led wire-to-wire. The following week, she T-2nd at the U.S. Women's Open after a thrilling three-way, 18-hole playoff with Kelly Robbins and eventual winner Hilary Lunke at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Cornelius, Ore. Was a member of the U.S. Solheim Cup Team.
In 2004, recorded two top-10 finishes: at the McDonald's LPGA Championship (T-2nd) and the Kellogg-Keebler Classic (T-5th).
In 2005, recorded a season-best T-3rd at the BMO Financial Group Canadian Women's Open and T-10 at the U.S. Women's Open.
In 2006, best finish was second place at the CN Canadian Women's Open, where she carded a career-low 64 during the first round. Also, T-2nd at the Franklin American Mortgage Championship.
In 2007, best finish was a T-3 at both the MasterCard Classic and at the SemGroup Championship. Carded 10 additional top-10 finishes and posted a 2-0-1 record for the victorious U.S. Solheim Cup Team.
In 2008, recorded her second and third LPGA career victories at the Bell Micro LPGA Classic and inaugural Lorena Ochoa Invitational. Crossed the $3 million mark in career earnings at the SemGroup Championship, where she T3 and recorded six of her season's 10 top-10 finishes in her final six events of the year.
In 2009, won the season-opening SBS Open at Turtle Bay, where she crossed the $4 million mark in career earnings and recorded a season-low 65 in the opening round. T-2nd at the Canadian Women's Open, where she carded a season-low 65 in the second round, and the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G, where she lost a three-way (with Sun Young Yoo) sudden-death playoff to Jiyai Shin. Added eight additional top-10 finishes and qualified for her third U.S. Solheim Cup Team, posting a 1-2-1 record for the victorious U.S. Team.
2010 Notes: Best finish was runner-up at the Sybase Match Play Championship. Finished T-7th at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational and the LPGA Tour Championship and T-8th at the ShopRite LPGA Classic and the CVS/pharmacy LPGA Challenge.
2011 Notes: Recorded nine top-10 finishes, including seven top-5 finishes with a season-best third at the Navistar LPGA Classic and T-3rd at the Kraft Nabisco Championship and the Evian Masters. Also finished fourth at the Sybase Match Play Championship and the U.S. Women's Open, T-4th at the CN Canadian Women's Open, fifth at the RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup, T-7th at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia, and T-8th at the LPGA State Farm Classic. Competed on her fourth U.S. Solheim Cup Team with a 0-3-0 record.
2012 Notes: Played in 26 events, made 23 cuts, and earned $794,294 (16th on the money list). She had six top-10 finishes and five top-5 finishes, including her fifth career victory at the HSBC Women's Champions.
2013 Notes: Made an impressive 20 cuts out of 22 events and finished 12th on the Tour money list. Had five top-5 finishes, including a season-best runner-up at the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic. Crossed the $8 million mark in career earnings after a T6 at The Evian Championship. Competed on her 5th U.S. Solheim Cup Team.
2014 Notes: She was 19th on the money list with $754,728, the eighth straight year she was in the top 20. She was 21st in CME points with 21 cuts made in 27 starts. She had six top-10 finishes. She held the 54-hole lead at the LOTTE Championship in Hawaii, then shot 73 Sunday to finish 2nd, two strokes back of winner Michelle Wie. She had her second runner-up finish of the year at the NW Arkansas Championship, finishing one back of winner Stacy Lewis.
2015 Notes: Made 23 cuts in 27 starts. She finished 34th on the money list, her first time out of the top 20 since 2006. Did manage a T-2nd at the TOTO Japan Open, where she shot 16-under 200 but lost a three-way playoff to Sun Ju Ahn. That was one of three top-10s. Stanford played on her sixth Solheim Cup team, going 1-2 in the matches and winning her singles match over Suzann Pettersen.
2016 Notes: Played in 26 LPGA events making 19 cuts with 4 top-ten finishes. Best was T-2nd at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, 2 shots back of winner Carlota Ciganda. She also had a T-4th at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, 4 back of winner Lydia Ko. Stanford finished 37th on the money list with $488,588 and is 51st in CME points.
2017 Notes: Played in 29 LPGA events and made 23 cuts. She was 3rd at the Kingsmill Championship, 9 shots back of winner Lexi Thompson. With her check of $87,308, she became the 13th player in LPGA history to climb over the $10 million mark in career earnings. Also was T-8th at the Marathon Classic and T-9th at the Lorena Ochoa Match Play.
2018 Notes: Played in 25 LPGA Tour events making 19 cuts with five top-ten finishes. Won her first major title and first LPGA victory at the Evian Championship. Stanford was tied for the lead with Amy Olson after an eagle at 15 but gave the lead back to Olson with a double bogey at 16. Stanford made birdie at 17 and par at 18 and waited for Olson, who stepped onto the 18th tee with a one-shot lead. Olson hit a poor tee shot which led to a double bogey, giving Stanford a one-shot victory. The victory came in Stanford's 76th major start, which is the most by any player (Sergio Garcia at 74 is the most for male majors). She was T-10th at the U.S. Women's Open, T-8th at HSBC Women's World Championship, and a T-4th at the Meijer Classic. She was 16th on the money list with $957,270 and 35th in the Race to CME.
2019 Notes: Played in 22 LPGA Tour events making 12 cuts. Was 102nd on the money list with $117,608 in earnings and finished 112th on the CME points list. Best finish T-23rd LPGA Mediheal Championship and Meijer LPGA Classic.
2020 Notes: Played in 16 LPGA Tour events making 13 cuts with three top-ten finishes. She was 13th on the money list with $586,321 in earnings and 9th on the CME points list. Was T-3rd at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, four shots back of winner Austin Ernst. Was T-6th at the Pelican Womens Championship. Returned to the winner's circle at the VOA Texas Shootout. Stanford shot a final round 67, the lowest of four rounds in the 60s for the final round, and was two ahead of So Yeon Ryu, Inbee Park, and Yealimi Noh. It was her 7th LPGA victory and second in her 40s, and at age 43 years, 8 days, Stanford is the LPGA's oldest winner since Sherri Steinhauer (43y, 7m, 10d) won the 2006 AIG Women's Open.
2021 Notes: Played in 18 LPGA events making nine cuts with two top-ten finishes. Was 71st on the CME points list and 77th on the money list with earnings of $222,661. Started her season T-5th at the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions. Had another T-5th finish at the HUGEL-AIR PREMIA L.A. Open, four shots back of winner Brooke Henderson. Stanford was the assistant captain for the 2021 U.S. Solheim Cup team. She ended her season missing her last five cuts, the last at the Pelican Womens Championship.
2022 Notes: Been a rough year with the death of her mother Nan in May, best finish was 23rd at the season-opening Hilton Tournament of Champions.
