Won the 1999 U.S. Girls' Junior at Green Spring Valley Hunt Club in Owings Mills, Md., with a 2-up victory over Nancy Abiecunas in the final. Won a total of 15 national junior tournaments from 1999-2001. In 2000, at the age of 13, tied for 10th in the Nabisco Championship and played the final round in the final pairing with Karrie Webb and Dottie Pepper In August 2000, at the age of 14, became the youngest player ever to advance to the semifinals of the U.S. Women's Amateur. Finished 13th in the 2000 Safeway LPGA Golf Championship. Named the 2000 Golf Digest and Golfweek Girls Junior Player of the Year and American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) Player of the Year. In 2001, played in her second Nabisco Championship, where she tied for 46th. Received the 2001 Nancy Lopez Award, which is presented to the best female amateur golfer of the year. In 2002, won the Harder Hall Invitational by eight shots, finished fifth in the South Atlantic Ladies Amateur and tied for 30th at her third consecutive Kraft Nabisco Championship. Tied for 51st at the 2002 U.S. Women's Open, earning low-amateur honors. Participated in the 2002 World Amateur Team Championships in Malaysia, placed first individually and helped the Thailand team to their second-place finish. In January 2003, she defended her title at the Harder Hall Invitational, won the South Atlantic Ladies Amateur and tied for 21st in her fourth consecutive Kraft Nabisco Championship. At the 2003 U.S. Women's Open, was paired in the second-to-last group with Annika Sorenstam and finished fifth. Turned professional in August 2003, and after receiving permission from then-LPGA Commissioner Ty Votaw to receive an age exemption, she applied to the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament.
In 2003, tied for fifth at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament to earn exempt status for the 2004 LPGA season.
In 2004, had a successful rookie year, posting four top-10 finishes, including a career-best second place at the Kraft Nabisco Championship; posted a career-low 64 during the second round of the Welch's/Fry's Championship; finished second to Shi Hyun Ahn for Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year honors.
In 2005, recorded a season-best tie for ninth at the State Farm Classic; notched her first LPGA career hole-in-one during the final round of the John Q. Hammons Hotel Classic.
In 2006, recorded a season-best third place at the Safeway International, where she tied her career-low 64 during the first round; also tied for third at the Mizuno Classic.
In 2007, best finish was a tie for ninth at the SemGroup Championship; crossed the $1 million mark in career earnings at the U.S. Women's Open.
In 2008, was sidelined much of the season with a mysterious illness including severe irritable bowel syndrome and adrenal insufficiency.
In 2009, returned to the LPGA and was on the leaderboard at the LPGA Championship in June before a final-round 78 pushed her back in the pack.
In 2010, again competed in the LPGA Qualifying Tournament to attempt to regain her playing privileges on the LPGA Tour; won the Tournament and gained full membership on the LPGA Tour for 2011.
