Lexi Thompson

Has two brothers: Nicholas, who has been a member on the PGA and Korn Ferry Tours, and Curtis, who played for LSU's golf team and is now on the Web.com Tour. Says her most starstruck moment is when she met Tiger Woods and actors Jonah Hill and Taylor Lautner. The top three things on Lexi's bucket list are skydiving, playing a round at Pebble Beach, and flying an F/A 18 Fighter Jet. Says her dream foursome would include Nancy Lopez, Channing Tatum, and Zac Efron.
Won the 2008 U.S. Girls' Junior at Hartford Golf Club in West Hartford, Conn., defeating Karen Chung in the final, 5 and 4, and became the second-youngest winner in championship history. Member of the victorious 2010 USA Curtis Cup Team that defeated Great Britain and Ireland by five points at Essex County Club. Posted the team's best record, going 4-0-1.
Won the Verizon Junior Heritage and Laredo Energy Junior in 2009, joining brother, Curtis, as champions of the same event. Two-time winner of the Doral Publix (2006 and 2007). Won the 2007 PGA Junior Championship, becoming the event's youngest champion. Earned first-team AJGA Rolex All-America honors in 2008 and 2009.
Played in 2007, 2008, and 2009 U.S. Women's Opens, becoming at the time the youngest qualifier in the history of the championship at age 12 in 2007. Amateur Lucy Li took over that distinction in 2014 after qualifying for the U.S. Women's Open at only 11 years old. Advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2007 U.S. Women's Amateur, becoming the youngest quarterfinalist in the championship's history. Competed for Team USA in the 2008 Junior Ryder Cup, where the USA defeated Great Britain and Ireland, 22-2. Tied for low-amateur honors in the 2009 Kraft Nabisco Championship, finishing 21st at 2-over 290. Was the No. 1 ranked Women's Amateur and Girls Junior Amateur by Golfweek in 2009.
2010 Notes: Turned professional in June, relying on sponsor's exemptions to gain entry into tournaments. After a T-10th in the U.S. Women's Open at Oakmont, went on to T-2nd in the Evian Masters. In December, petitioned the LPGA to allow her to play in up to 12 LPGA tournaments in 2011 using sponsor's exemptions instead of the six allowed to non-members by LPGA rules. In January 2011, the LPGA denied her petition but announced it would allow non-members to participate in Monday qualifying. Played in seven total LPGA events and finished with $336,472 in earnings.
2011 Notes: Won the Navistar LPGA Classic by five shots as a non-member; became at the time the youngest winner in LPGA Tour history at 16 years, 8 months, and 8 days. Was granted 2012 LPGA membership on Sept. 30 and played in nine total LPGA events with $244,303 in earnings. Also won the OMEGA Dubai Ladies Masters Championship on the Ladies European Tour (LET) to become the second-youngest professional at the time to win on the LET.
2012 Notes: Played full-time as an LPGA member. In 23 events, made 19 cuts and earned $611,021 (21st on the money list). Had four top-10 finishes, including a season-best runner-up in the Navistar LPGA Classic, where she also recorded a career-low 63 in the first round. Thompson finished second in Louise Suggs Rookie of the Year points.
2013 Notes: Played in 24 events and finished 6th on the LPGA Tour money list. Had six top-10 finishes and four top-five finishes. Recorded her first and second official LGPA victories at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia and the Lorena Ochoa Invitational Presented by Banamex. Ranked 2nd in eagles with 12 for the season and 2nd in driving distance at 271.19 average yards per drive. Competed on her first U.S. Solheim Cup Team and posted a 1-2-0 record.
2014 Notes: Thompson was 12th on the money list with $946,764, and 16th in CME Group points with eight top 10s in 25 starts. She was 2nd on Tour in driving distance (269.99 yards) for the third straight year. She won the ANA Inspiration for her first career major title. She closed with a bogey-free 4-under 68 for a three-shot victory over Michelle Wie. Thompson birdied four of the first nine holes to open a five-shot lead and made par on the final nine. She became the second-youngest major winner at that time in LPGA history at 19 years, 1 month, 27 days. Morgan Pressel holds the record with her victory in the 2007 Kraft at 18 years, 10 months, and 9 days. She tied for 2nd in the Kingsmill Championship, three shots back of winner Lizette Salas.
2015 Notes: Made 23 cuts in 24 starts with 12 top-10 finishes and two victories. Ranked 5th on the money list and 3rd in CME points. Led the LPGA in greens in regulation (77.2 percent) and was 4th in driving distance (267.6 yards). Her first win of the season came at the Meijer LPGA Classic, where she came from five shots behind with a final-round 65. Her second win was the LPGA KEB-HanaBank Championship, where her 15-under 273 beat Yani Tseng and Sung Hyung Park by one shot. She had two top-3 finishes in majors, a 2nd at The Evian Championship and a 3rd at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship. Thompson played for the U.S. Solheim Cup team for the 2nd time, going 2-0-2 in the matches.
2016 Notes: Played in 19 LPGA Tour events making 18 cuts. Won the Honda LPGA Thailand for her 7th career victory. Opened with a 64 and finished at 20-under 268 to finish six ahead of In Gee Chun. She was the 54-hole leader at the ANA Inspiration, then shot a 73 to finish fifth, three back of winner Lydia Ko. Thompson's streak of 22 straight made cuts ended at the Volunteers of America Texas Shootout. In May, she won the World Ladies Championship Salonpas Cup, a major championship on the Japan LPGA Tour. The next best finish on the LPGA was T-4th at the Meijer LPGA Classic, Thompson was the 54-hole co-leader but shot 72 Sunday to finish three shots out of the playoff won by Sei Young Kim. She was 18th on the money list with $888,571 and 22nd in CME points. She helped the U.S. win the UL International Crown at the Merit Club. Thompson was 2-1 in pool play while teamed with Cristie Kerr and was the only American to lose her singles match (2 and 1 to So Yeon Ryu). She was T-19th at the Rio Olympics as a U.S. women's golf team member. In 2017, she got a tattoo of the Olympic rings on her left wrist.
2017 Notes: Played in 21 LPGA Tour events making 20 cuts. Posted a career-best year with two wins, six runner-up finishes, and her highest-ever place on the money list (3rd). Captured the Vare Trophy for having the lowest scoring average on the LPGA Tour; her 2017 scoring average ranks fourth-best all-time behind only Annika Sorenstam, who holds the top-three marks.
Lexi was 2nd at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic in her first event of the year, losing a playoff to Brittany Lincicome. She finished 2nd at the ANA Inspiration, losing a playoff to So Yeon Ryu after they tied at 14-under 274. Thompson was penalized four shots during Sunday's round for an infraction she committed on Saturday that was called to the LPGA by a television viewer and finished in a tie with Ryu. Ryu won with a birdie on the first playoff hole. Thompson won the Kingsmill Championship for her eighth LPGA victory. She was T-2nd at the Manulife LPGA Classic. Thompson held a four-shot lead on Sunday but struggled down the stretch, including missing a 4-foot putt on the last hole to finish tied with Ariya Jutanugarn and In Gee Chun. Jutanugarn won on the first playoff hole. She had her fourth runner-up finish of the season with a T2 at the Meijer Classic, finishing 2 shots back of Brooke Henderson.
She finished T-7th at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship and then T-27th at the U.S. Women's Open. Was 2nd at the Marathon Classic, 4 shots back of winner In-Kyung Kim who shot 63 in the final round. She won the Indy Women in Tech Championship for her second title of the year and 9th of her career. Thompson beat Lydia Ko by 4 shots. She was T-2nd at the CME Group Championship, a shot back of winner Ariya Jutanugarn after missing a 2-foot par putt on the last hole that would have eventually forced a playoff. That was her 6th runner-up finish of the year. Competed on her third U.S Solheim Cup team, posting a 2-0-2 record
2018 Notes: Played in 20 LPGA Tour events making 18 cuts with seven top-10 finishes. Started the year with a T-6th finish at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic. She was T-2nd at the Honda LPGA Thailand, 4 shots back of winner Jessica Korda. Was T-3rd a the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship. Pulled out a victory in the last event of the season CME Group Tour Championship. She led after the 2nd and 3rd rounds and went on to a 4-shot win over Nelly Korda.
2019 Notes: Played in 21 LPGA Tour events making 16 cuts with eight top-ten finishes. She was 6th on the money list with $1,537,292 in earnings and finished 8th on the CME points list. Started her season with a T-10th finish at the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions. She was 3rd at the ANA Inspiration, 4 shots back of Jin Young Ko. She was T-4th at the LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship, two shots back of the Sei Young Kim/Bronte Law/Jeongeun Lee6 playoff. In the U.S. Women's Open shot a final round 73 and finished two shots back of winner Jeongeun Lee6. The next week shot a final round 67 at the ShopRite LPGA Classic and won by a shot over Jeongeun Lee6. Kept the hot streak alive the next week at the Meijer LPGA Classic, shot 62-68 over the weekend to finish T-2nd, a shot back of winner Brooke Henderson. Was 2nd again at the Marathon Classic, two shots back of winner Sei Young Kim. She ended her season with a T-6th at the CME Group Tour Championship, five shots back of winner Sei Young Kim. Played for a fourth time on the U.S. Solheim Cup team, finishing with an 0-2-2 record. She lost her singles match to Georgia Hall 2 & 1.
2020 Notes: Played in 12 LPGA Tour events making 10 cuts with three top-ten finishes. Was 26th on the money list with $404,237 in earnings and was 34th on the CME points list. With no victories during the year, a streak of seven straight years ended with a win between 2013 and 2019. Started her season with a T-7th finish at the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions. During the COVID-19 break played on the Minor League Golf tour, which was a men's mini-tour. Was 4th at the ANA Inspiration, two shots back of the Mirim Lee/Brooke Henderson/Nelly Korda playoff. Ended the season with a T-5th finish at the CME Group Tour Championship.
2021 Notes: Played in 19 LPGA Tour events making 19 cuts with seven top-ten finishes. Was 7th on the CME Points list and 10th on the money list earning $1,254,423. Started the season with a T-7th finish at the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions. Thompson was T-2nd at the Gainbridge LPGA, three shots back of winner Nelly Korda. She was T-2nd again at the KIA Classic, five shots back of the winner Inbee Park. At the U.S. Women's Open, Thompson had a rough final nine holes to blow the championship. At Olympic Club, which has seen other tragic final-nine failures by Ben Hogan in 1955, Arnold Palmer in 1966, and Payne Stewart in 1998, Thompson had a five-shot lead with ten holes to play. But Thompson played the last eight holes in five over and found herself a shot back of the Yuka Saso/Hataoka playoff in 3rd place. Lexi was 33rd at the Toyko Olympics as a USA women's golf team member. Was T-8th at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship. Was T-2nd at the Pelican Womens Championship, she lost to Nelly Korda in a four women playoff. She played in her fifth Solheim Cup. She was 1-2-1 in the matches, she halved her singles match with Anna Nordqvist. Ended her season 8th at the CME Group Tour Championship.
2022 Notes: Thompson was 2nd in the LPGA Drive On at Crown Colony, three shots back of winner Leona Maguire. Shot a final round 68 to finish T-4th a the Chevron Championship. She was 2nd in the Cognizant Founders Cup, two shots back of winner Minjee Lee. Was T-5th a the Meijer LPGA Classic, 2 shots back of the Jennifer Kupchio/Leona Maguire/Nelly Korda Playoff. Finished T-2nd at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship a shot back of winner In Gee Chun.
