Marina Alex

Marina Alex comes from a golf family. Her father, Steve, is a low-handicap amateur. Her younger brother, Anthony, is on the golf team at Florida State. She has qualified for three U.S. Girls' Junior Championships and was runner-up in the New Jersey State Golf Association Women's Amateur at Rumson Country Club in 2005.
As a sophomore at Vanderbilt, she was the individual winner in the 2010 SEC Championship and was runner-up as a senior. She was also named SEC Player of the Year twice while playing golf at Vanderbilt University and was selected as an NGCA First-Team All-American (2010, 2012). She received her degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Vanderbilt.
Alex competed in seven events on the Symetra Tour in 2012, recording two top-10 finishes and a season-best T-3rd in the Challenge at Musket Ridge.
In 2013, she competed primarily on the Symetra Tour and finished third in the Volvik Race for the Card to earn Priority List Category 9 for the 2014 LPGA Tour season. She recorded six top-10 wins on the Symetra Tour and ranked second in greens in regulation (76%) and third in rounds under par (23).
She also played in 25 events on the LPGA Tour in 2014, making 15 cuts. That year she earned $224,330, which placed her 65th on the LPGA money list. Her best finish that year was T-9th in the RICOH Women's British Open.
In 2015, Alex played in 24 events on the LPGA Tour, making 15 cuts. She then earned an additional $182,967, which placed her 71st on the LPGA money list. Her best finish that year was T-9th in the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship. She recorded her career-low of 66 twice in the first rounds in the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship and the U.S. Women's Open, which she co-led after the first round. She went on to finish T-20th.
Alex had 26 LPGA starts in 2015, making the cut in 19 of them with 3 top-10 finishes. She achieved her career-best finish at the time, T-6th in the LPGA Volvik Championship. She finished 65th on the money list with $282,972.
In 2017, she had 25 LPGA starts making 21 cuts with a career-high six top-10 finishes. She fniished a career-best 27th on the LPGA Money list. Her best finish was T-3rd at the Canadian Pacific Women's Open, three shots back of winner Sung Hyun Park. Her next best finish was 5th place at the LPGA KEB HanaBank Championship. Play ng in her home state of New Jersey, Alex was the low-American in the U.S. Women's Open, finishing T-11th at 4-under 284. Alex had many friends and family members in attendance at Trump National in Bedminster, about 40 miles from where she grew up in Wayne, N.J.
Most recently in 2018, she played in 24 LPGA events making 20 cuts with six top-10 finishes. She finished T5 at the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open, T2 at the Bank of Hope Founders Cup, 5 shots back of the winner, Inbee Park, and finished 3rd at the ShopRite Classic, 2 shots back from the winner, Annie Park.
Her first LPGA victory was the Cambia Portland Classic in 2018. Alex shot 62 in round one and a 65 on Sunday to beat Georgia Hall by 4 shots. Alex won in her 124th Tour start and did so with Travis Wilson as her caddie. Wilson was the caddie for Stacy Lewis when she won in Portland in 2017. He picked up Alex's bag when Lewis went on maternity leave. Alex had her second runner-up finish of the year with a T-2nd at the Buick LPGA Shanghai, 2 shots back of the winner, Danielle Kang. She as 10th in CME points.
2019 Notes: Played in 23 LPGA events making 21 cuts with five top-tens. She on $609,290 and was 37th on the money list, and 37th on the CME points list. Be finishes, 3rd at Indy Women in Tech Championship, T-7th in the Cambia Portland Classic. Was a member of the Solheim Cup with a record of 1-1-2. She lost her singles match to Suzann Pettersen, and it came down to an 8-foot putt on the last hole that Pettersen made to clinch the Cup for Europe.
2020 Notes: Played in just 7 LPGA events, mostly due to COVID-19, which she had prior to the LPGA restart. In those 7 starts made six cuts with two top-ten finishes, T-4th at the Handa Women's Australian Open and T-5th at the Marathon Classic. She made $225,882 to finish 52nd on the money list. Finished 63rd on the CME points list.
2021 Notes: Played in 20 LPGA events making 15 cuts with one top-ten finish. She made $295,606 to finish 64th on the money list. She finished 66th on the CME points list. Her best finish, T-7th at the Women's Scottish Open. She played despite suffering from a herniated disk in her lower back that has caused her to miss some time in 2021.
2022 Notes: She was the 36-hole co-leader at the LPGA Drive On at Crown Colony, shot 72 in the final round to finish T-4th, five shots back of winner Leona Maguire. Won the Palos Verdes Championship for her first victory in nearly four years. Shot 66 in the final round to beat Jin Young Ko by a shot. Was T-6th at the ShopRite LPGA Classic, three back of the Brooke M. Henderson/Lindsey Weaver-Wright playoff.
