Started playing golf at the age of 4. Credits her father John Gulbis as the individual most influencing her career. John was a retired juvenile probation officer
At age 14, won the California Women's Amateur Championship. That same year, she became the youngest player to Monday qualify for an LPGA tournament, the 1997 Longs Drugs Challenge, a record that stood until Michelle Wie Monday qualified at the 2002 LPGA Takefuji Classic at age 12. Represented the state of California in two USGA Women's State Team Championships and was the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship medalist in 1998. Won four collegiate tournaments while at the University of Arizona, including the NCAA West Regional. She was named a First-Team All-American selection in 2001.
Gulbis turned professional in July 2001 and finished T-3rd at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament to earn exempt status for the 2002 season. Won the LPGA Sectional Qualifying Tournament in Venice, Fla., by eight strokes.
In 2002, T-5th at the ShopRite LPGA Classic and the Giant Eagle LPGA Classic. Finished second to Beth Bauer in the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year race.
In 2003, T-12th at the Chick-fil-A Charity Championship hosted by Nancy Lopez for her best finish of the season. Carded a career-low 63 in the third round of the Welch's/Fry's Championship.
In 2004, best finish was a T-7th at the Chick-fil-A Charity Championship hosted by Nancy Lopez. Carded her first LPGA career hole-in-one during the final round of the Safeway Classic.
In 2005, best finish was a T-3rd at both the Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill and State Farm Classic. Qualified for her first Solheim Cup and scored three points for the victorious U.S. Team. Earned more than $1 million in a season for the first time in her career.
In 2006, best finish was runner-up at the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic, where she lost to Mi Hyun Kim on the third hole of a sudden-death playoff. Crossed the $2 million mark in career earnings at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, where she was T-3rd and recorded her best finish in a major championship. One of only two players, the other being Lorena Ochoa, to finish in the top 20 in all four major championships. Recorded her second LPGA career hole-in-one during the second round of the Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill.
In 2007, became a Rolex First-Time Winner at the Evian Masters, where she defeated Jeong Jang in a one-hole, sudden-death playoff. Crossed the $3 million mark in career earnings with her victory. Made her second appearance on the victorious U.S. Solheim Cup Team.
In 2008, best finish was a T-9th at the Ricoh Women's British Open. Received the William and Mousie Powell Award, an award given each year since 1986 by the LPGA Tour to a player "whose behavior and deeds best exemplifies the spirit, ideals and values of the LPGA."
In 2009, qualified for her third U.S. Solheim Cup Team after finishing 10th in the points race, posted a 1-1-1 record for her winning squad. Best finish was a T-7th at the Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill, also T-10th at the SBS Open at Turtle Bay.
In 2010, best finish was a T-12th at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia, T-14th at the U.S. Women's Open. She had back problems for years, and had surgery in January 2010.
In 2011, best finish was a T-15th at the LPGA State Farm Classic.
2012 Notes: She played in 22 events, making 16 cuts and earning $321,472. She had three top-10 finishes, including a season-best T-4th at the Evian Masters.
2013 Notes: She played in 20 events, making 17 cuts. Her best finish was a T-9th and the Ricoh Women's British Open. She earned $187,237, placing her 63rd on the money list.
2014 news: She was 138th on the money list, the first time she was outside the top 100 in her career. She made six cuts in 12 starts with a best of T-19th at North Texas LPGA Shootout. She was sidelined for three months after the U.S. Open with two tears to her left hip flexor. She had a laser surgery Thanksgiving week and spent more than a month without touching a club.
In 2015 was able to return after surgery, in her first event finished T-62nd at the Pure Silk-Bahamas LPGA. For the year has only had one top-25, a T-25th at the Volunteers of America North Texas Shootout.
Her husband, Josh Rodarmel, is a former Yale quarterback and former co-owner of the Power Balance bracelet company. They were married Dec. 23, 2013.
