Sun Young Yoo

Started playing golf at age 11. Credits her parents as the individuals most influencing her career. When she's not playing golf, Sun Young enjoys shopping and earned the nickname "Course Clown" by her fellow Tour members for her sense of humor and fun personality. Her dream foursome would include Adam Scott, Luke Donald, and Lorena Ochoa. Her favorite sports team is the Orlando Magic. Claims her favorite on-course memory was when she won the 2012 Kraft Nabisco Championship.
Won the Korea Junior Golf Championship in 2001 and was a member of the Korean National Golf Team in 2002 and 2004. Finished second in the 2003 Senior High School Championship and in the amateur division of the Korea LPGA Women's Open. In 2004, was a quarterfinalist in the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship won the MBC-Hanzen and Par-Max tournaments and finished fourth in the Women's World Amateur Team Championship.
In 2004, turned professional.
In 2005, competed on the Futures Tour, where she won the Betty Puskar Futures Golf Classic and ended the season with 10 top-10 finishes in 18 starts. She finished fifth on the Futures Tour season-ending money list to earn exempt status for the 2006 LPGA season.
In 2006, best finish was a T-5th in the John Q. Hammons Hotel Classic.
In 2007, best finish was a T-17th in the Longs Drugs Challenge.
In 2008, recorded a T-3rd in the LPGAÃ?â??Ã? Corning Classic and in the LPGA State Farm Classic, where she tied for 12th. Crossed the $1 million mark in career earnings in the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, where she tied for fourth and carded her first LPGA hole-in-one in the third round. She also tied for fourth in the CN Canadian Women's Open and Kapalua LPGA Classic.
In 2009, posted a career-best T-2nd in the P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Championship, where she lost to Jiyai Shin in a three-way sudden-death playoff (with Angela Stanford). Tied for third in the CVS/pharmacy LPGA� Challenge, where she tied a career-low with a 64 in the second round, finished sixth in the HSBC Women's Champions and tied for seventh in the Wegmans LPGA.
In 2010, became a first-time winner, in the Sybase Match-Play Championship with a 3-and-1 victory over Angela Sanford in the final. Tied for eighth in the LPGA Hana Bank Championship, and tied for 10th in the Bell Micro LPGA Classic.
In 2011, recorded six top-10 finishes, including fourth in the HSBC Women's Champions; T-7th in the RR Donnelly LPGA Founders Cup, RICOH Women's British Open and LPGA HanaBank Championship; ninth in the Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship; and T-10th in the CN Canadian Women's Open.
2012 Notes: Played in 23 events, making 22 cuts. Defeated I.K. Kim in a playoff for her first major in the Kraft Nabisco Championship. It was her second career LPGA win and with it, she crossed the $3 million mark in career earnings. She had four top-10s, earning $781,587 and finishing 17th on the money list. Overall, she had four top-10 finishes.
2013 Notes: Played in 25 events. Finished 39th on the money list and had five top-10 finishes, including a season-best T-5th in the Wegmans LPGA Championship.
2014 Notes: She was 61st on the LPGA money list with $261,351 and 60th in CME points with 19 cuts made in 26 starts. She had her only top-10 finish of the year with a T-8th in the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia.
2015 Notes: Made 15 cuts in 25 starts and finished 53rd on the money list. Only top-10 finishes came in her first two events, a T-8th at the COATES Golf Championship and a T-2nd at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Championship, losing a playoff to Sei Young Kim.
2016 Notes: Her first top-10 finish of the year came in June, a T-8th at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship.
2017 Notes: Played in 22 LPGA events, making 17 cuts. She recorded two top-10 finishes, T-6th at the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open and T-7th at the Blue Bay LPGA. Finished the season 72nd on the money list.
2018 Notes: Best finish T-7th finish at the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open.
