Born in June 1963, Brehaut attended the University of the Pacific with reigning U.S. Senior Amateur champion and 2018 U.S. Senior Open low amateur Jeff Wilson. Following graduation, he turned professional in 1986 and began pursuing his dream of competing against the best players in the world on the PGA Tour. Playing mini-tour golf, he won numerous events and in 1992 was named the Golden State Tour Player of the Year. From 1993 to 1998 he played full time on the Web.com Tour, winning twice. Played a total of 274 events on that tour making 157 cuts with 26 top-ten finishes. For those six years, Jeff finished in the top 50 on the money list to earn a spot every year in the season-ending Nike Tour Championship Tournament.
In 1998, Brehaut successfully qualified for the PGA Tour. There, he competed from 1999-2007. He played in 229 events making 118 cuts. He was in the top-ten, 12 times and his best finish was T-3rd at the 2005 International, he had career earnings of $3.7 million. Many highlights over the years include two wins on the Web.Com Tour, winning the grueling six-round final stage of the PGA Tour Qualifying School in 2002 and the 2004 Callaway Invitational at Pebble Beach.
Between 2008 and 2011, Brehaut returned to the Web.com Tour and beginning in 2013 has played part-time on the Champions Tour.
He held the lead after the first round of the 2009 U.S. Open at Bethpage Black and went on to finish T-58th. His best finish in a U.S. Open was T-17th in 2007. At the 2013 U.S. Senior Open, he was T-23rd.
Jeff is one of the few former PGA Tour players now teaching and coaching golf. He lives in Los Altos, Calif. with his family and teaches mainly out of his home studio, San Jose State Golf Complex, Sharon Heights and Los Altos Country Clubs. While his best-known student is Hall of Fame member and five-time USGA champion Juli Inkster, he teaches a wide variety of players including LPGA players, mini-tour professionals, college players, and amateurs.
