Started playing golf when he was six years old. The course he grew up playing did not allow anyone under the age of nine to play a round of golf. From age six to nine, he worked on his striking the ball, chipping and putting.
His father played golf and belonged to the nine-hole military base golf course in Oxnard, Calif. His younger brother, Paul, is a two-time PGA Tour winner, claiming the 1996 BellSouth Classic and the 1997 United Airlines Hawaiian Open.
Initially used the game of golf as an excuse to get out of the house and away from his four older sisters to hang out with a group of guys. Played junior golf and later received a scholarship to Arizona State University.
Spent more than 22 years competing on mini-tours. Has traveled the globe to play competitive golf, including on the South African Tour for a year and the Canadian Tour for 10 years. If he didn't see success, he probably would have quit and got a normal job.
Quit playing professionally in 2008 to move to Florida to take care of his mother and father.
Stankowski's busiest year as a professional was 1995 when he played 25 events on the Web.com Tour which included 10 made cuts, highlighted by one third-place finish and one additional top-25 performance. From 2008 through 2010, he made 18 cuts on the Mackenzie Tour, earning 7 top-25 finishes and two top-10 finishes. Was the Canadian Tour champion in 2008, Arizona Open champion in 2005 and San Francisco Open champion in 2004.
Played in the 1992 U.S. Open and the 2016 & '17 U.S. Senior Open, where he missed the cut by four-strokes.
