Bobby Gates

Player Notes:

Gates was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida, where he attended F. W. Buchholz High School. After leading the Buchholz golf team in scoring average during his senior year, Gates was named Scholar Athlete of the Year for Alachua County, Florida. He attended Texas A&M University, graduating in 2008 with a degree in agriculture. He turned professional after graduation and played on the Gateway Tour in 2008. He also played on the Canadian Tour in 2009, finishing 22nd on the Order of Merit.
Gates joined the Web.Com Tour in 2010 after finishing T-42nd at the 2009 PGA Tour qualifying school. He won in his debut event on Tour, the 2010 Michael Hill New Zealand Open. He finished the year 16th on the money list and earned his 2011 PGA Tour card.
2010 Web.com Summary: Tournaments entered - 23; in money - 13; top-10 finishes - 4; scoring average 70.30 (ranked 52nd); money $259,401 (ranked 16th); best finish winner Michael Hill New Zealand Open.
2011 Notes: Played in 29 events, making 11 cuts and finished in the top-ten three times. His best finish was T-5th Mayakoba Golf Classic. Finished 152nd in the FedEx Cup Playoffs and 126th on the money list. He missed retaining his tour card by one spot and $1,431; Gates later regained his Tour Card through Q School finishing T-3rd.
2012 Notes: Played in 29 events, making 15 cuts and finished in the top-ten once. His best finish was T-8th at the Humana Challenge. Was 129th in the FedEx Cup Playoffs and 141st on the money list which meant another trip to Q-School in which he got the last spot finishing T-22nd.
2013 Notes: Had a terrible start to his year missing his first seven cuts before the Zurich Classic and 0 for 10 in cuts made, dating to the 2012 Frys.com Open. With a final round 66 he walked away finishing T-4th at the Zurich, his career best finish on the PGA Tour. After that continued to struggle making only three cuts in his remaining 12 starts. So he finished the year 179th in the FedEx Cup Playoffs and 150th on the money list. So it was off to the Web.Com Tour playoffs and in his first event finished T7th at the Hotel Fitness Championship. He earned $30,125 for that event and with his $3,525 earned for his T-48th at the Nationwide Children's Championship was enough to get him his PGA Tour card for 2014.
In 2014 has only made one cut in 11 starts, T-80th at the Farmers Insurance Open. Playing on the Web.Com tour, has missed cuts at the South Georgia Classic and Rex Hospital Open.
