David Lingmerth

Lingmerth started to play golf at age 9. After winning the Swedish Championship in ice hockey for boys at 15, he dedicated his time to becoming a better golfer. His progress allowed him to get a scholarship to the University of West Florida (NCAA Division II) in Pensacola, Fla. He would later transfer to the University of Arkansas. He finished his collegiate career at Arkansas in the spring of 2010 and, later that fall, advanced to the final stage of PGA Tour Q-school, missing out on his Tour card by 5 shots. His T-59th finish got him full status on the Korn Ferry Tour for the 2011 season.
His uncle, Goran Lingmerth, played for the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League.
2011 Notes: Played on the Korn Ferry Tour. He had some success with two 3rd-place finishes and five top-10s but missed out on earning his PGA Tour card by two spots on the season-ending money list, finishing 27th. He also played in PGA Tour Qualifying School in a move to try and earn playing privileges but finished T-115th.
2012 Notes: Lost a playoff in the United Leasing Championship, but won his first event on the Korn Ferry Tour, the Neediest Kids Championship, in October, finishing a stroke ahead of Casey Wittenberg. Lingmerth ended the season ranked 10th on the money list, which earned him his PGA Tour card for the 2013 season.
2013 Notes: In his second career start on the PGA Tour, Lingmerth finished as a joint runner-up at the Humana Challenge after losing in a three-man playoff. He shot a 10-under-par round of 62 in the final round to get into the playoff with Brian Gay and Charles Howell III. He was eliminated on the first extra hole after finding the water with his second shot on the par-5 18th hole. Coming off five consecutive missed cuts, he made the most of home-field advantage in his first start at The Players Championship. Went from T-10th (4 under par) to T-6th (8 under), to a share of the lead (11 under) after 54 holes before an even-par 72 resulted in a T-2nd with Kevin Streelman and Jeff Maggert, two shots behind winner Tiger Woods. The performance set a new mark for the best finish in The Players Championship by a rookie, previously a T-3rd held by Fulton Allem (1988) and Camilo Villegas (2003). Finished the year 75th in the FedExCup standings and 46th on the money list.
2014 Notes: Played in 26 PGA Tour events, making 14 cuts and recording two top-10s. He posted four par-or-better rounds at PGA National for a T-8th finish. Making his 40th Tour start, he finished T-5th at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. He closed the tournament with matching weekend rounds of 4-under 66. He had come to Fort Worth, having missed his last five cuts. At the Wyndham Championship, he was 122nd in the FedExCup standings and shot a first-round 67. Over the next three rounds, he was 4 over and finished T-74th, dropping him to 128th in FedExCup points. Started the final round of the first Korn Ferry Tour Finals event, the Hotel Fitness Championship, T-26th. They vaulted up the leaderboard with a final-round 64, good for a T-4th. A check for $41,333 was supplemented by an additional $22,035 in the next two events in Charlotte, N.C., and Columbus, Ohio, enough to ensure him his PGA Tour card for 2015. Wrapped up the Finals with a 6th-place finish at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship, closing with a 65 on the Dye's Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass.
2015 Notes: The highlight of Lingmerth's career came at The Memorial, where he overcame a three-shot deficit in the final round to force a playoff with 2010 champion Justin Rose. Lingmerth made a six-foot par putt on the third extra hole to claim his first PGA Tour title in his 68th career start. Going into the event, he had missed four cuts in his previous five starts. Over Independence Day weekend, they posted a 6-under-par 64 in the third round of the Greenbrier Classic en route to a T-6th with six others at 11-under 269. Finished 3rd in the Quicken Loans National, T-6th in the WGC-Bridgestone, and T-12th in the PGA Championship. It ended the year 37th in the FedEx Cup rankings and 29th on the money list.
2016 Notes: Played in 24 PGA Tour events, making 18 cuts and finishing in the top ten twice. In the CareerBuilder Challenge, he followed a third-round, 10-under 62 with a 7-under 65 in the final round to come from five strokes back and force a playoff with 54-hole leader Jason Dufner. On the second playoff hole, Lingmerth found water, and a Dufner par won the title. Lingmerth's 62 in the second round tied his career-low score, which was first posted in the final round of the 2013 CareerBuilder Challenge. His best finish the rest of the year was T-7th in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. Finished the year 67th in the FedEx Cup standings and 52nd on the money list. He represented Sweden in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, finishing T-11th in the 60-man field. In late November, he finished T-5th representing Swedent in the Handa World Cup with teammate Alex Noren at Kingston Heath Golf Club in Australia.
2017 Notes: Played in 23 PGA Tour events making 17 cuts with one top-ten finish. It was 94th on the FedExCup rankings. The best finish is a T-5th at the Quicken Loans National. It could have been better. He opened up with 65-65 to lead, and even with a 3rd round, 73 was still the leader. But a 4th round 73 dropped him back, so much that he couldn't even secure a berth into the Open Championship. In the FedExCup playoffs was T-29th at the Northern Trust and missed the cut at the Dell Technologies Championship.
2018 Notes: Played in 26 PGA Tour events making 16 cuts. It was 143rd in the FedExCup rankings. Best finish T-11th at The Greenbrier.
2019 Notes: Played in 13 PGA Tour events making four cuts. Best finish T-41st at the Memorial. Played in nine Korn Ferry Tour events making seven cuts. Best finish T-14th at the Nashville Golf Open. He finished the season at No. 130 on the Regular Season points list.
2020/21 Notes: Played in 20 events on the Korn Ferry Tour, making nine cuts. Best finish T-11th at the AdventHealth Championship. Played in ten PGA Tour events in 2020, making two cuts, best finish T-43rd at the RSM Classic. He played in 11 events in 2021, making five cuts, best finish T-11th at the Barbasol Championship.
2022 Notes: Played in 14 PGA Tour events making nine cuts, best finish T-16th at the Puerto Rico Open. Played in seven Korn Ferry events making three cuts, and won the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship. He entered the week without a top-10 in his last 117 PGA Tour-sanctioned starts, with his last top-10 coming in July 2017 at the Quicken Loans National. He posted a wire-to-wire victory at the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship. Broke the Ohio State University Golf Club Scarlet Course's 18-hole tournament scoring record with a 9-under 62 in the first round. They lost the outright lead twice in the final round, including after a bogey on the par-3 17th, which sent him to the 72nd hole tied with Paul Haley II. He made a 13-footer for birdie on the par-4 18th to emerge victorious, secure a place within The Finals 25, and regain his PGA Tour card for 2023.
2023 Notes: Finished T-8th at Mayakoba's World Wide Technology Championship, his first top-10 on Tour since the 2017 Quicken Loans National (T-5th). I was T-10th at the RSM Classic and the Honda Classic. He finished T-6th at The Players Championship, his second top-10 at the event and first since finishing runner-up in his tournament debut in 2013. Between finishing T-27th at the Valspar Championship and missing the cut at the John Deere Classic only made one cut (T-47th Well Fargo) in ten starts. At the Genesis Scottish Open, shot rounds of 66-70-66-68 to finish T-3rd, five back of winner Rory McIlroy and earn one of the last spots into the 151st Open Championship.
