J.J. Spaun

"J.J." is short for John Michale Spaun, Jr., he is of Filipino descent from his mother's side, Spaun can also claim Mexican ancestry. Spaun was born in Los Angeles, California. He played his college golf at the San Diego State University, where he was a two-time All-Mountain West Conference selection in 2010, 2011 and Conference Player of the Year in 2012. He was named a Third-team All-American in 2011 and Second-team All-American in 2012 highlighted by three-straight individual wins his senior year. Spaun majored in social science at SDSU and turned professional in 2012.
Spaun played his first 3 professional seasons on PGA Tour Canada, finishing 35th in 2013. After missing 6 of 7 cuts in 2014, he went to PGA Tour Canada Q School, where he finished T-8th. Spaun had his first professional win at the 2015 Staal Foundation Open. The win moved Spaun inside the top three on the PGA Tour Canada Order of Merit, earning entry into the 2015 RBC Canadian Open. The Canadian Open was Spaun's PGA Tour debut, where he finished T-41st.
With two events remaining in the 2015 season, Spaun broke the record in PGA Tour Canada single-season earnings with $91,193. He made the cut in the eleven events he played, which included a tour-record four consecutive top-five finishes and six consecutive top-10s. Spaun finished as the PGA Tour Canada Order of Merit winner, which made him fully exempt on the Web.com Tour for 2016.
2016 Web.com Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 23; Rounds Played - 77; in money - 15; top -10 Finishes - 7; Scoring Average - 69.49 (rank 15th); Season money $350,832 (rank 3rd), Finals money $12,600 (rank 57th), Priority rank (4th); Best finish: Winner News Sentinel Open. Finished 2nd losing a playoff to Ollie Schniederjans at the Air Capital Classic. Also 2nd at Utah Championship 2 shots back of winner Nicholas Lindheim. Locked up his PGA Tour card for the 2016-17 season with a third-place finish on the 2016 Web.com Tour Regular Season money list.
2017 Notes: Played in 29 PGA Tour events making 18 cuts with 3 top-ten finishes. Finished 97th in the FedExCup standings after a T-75th at the Dell Technologies Championship. Best finishes T-4th at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, T-6th at the RBC Heritage Classic and T-9th at the Farmers Insurance Open.
2018 Notes: Played in 27 PGA Tour events making 16 cuts with four top-ten finishes. Was T-10th at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. With rounds of 62-66 on the weekend finished 2nd at the RSM Classic, 4 shots back of winner Austin Cook. T-3rd at the AT&T Byron Nelson, 4 back of winner Aaron Wise. Was also T-3rd at the Barracuda Championship. Was 62nd in the FedExCup standings.
2019 Notes: T-10th at the CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges. After an opening round of 69 at the Mayakoba Golf Classic, shot 65-65-66 to finish T-3rd, 3 shots back of winner Matt Kuchar.
