John Merrick

Lists his parents as his heroes. Got his start in golf from friends and his dad. Won 2001 Southern California Golf Association Amateur at age 19, the youngest since Tiger Woods in 1994 to capture the nation's second-oldest, continuously contested amateur championship. Made six cuts in a combined 10 starts during the 2004-05 Web.com Tour seasons. Only top-25 was a T12 at the 2004 Envirocare Utah Classic in his first career start on the Web.com Tour. Has also played on the Spanos Tour. Earned All-Pac-10 honors after capturing medalist honors at the 2003 Pac-10 Championship.
2006 Web.Com Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 29; in money - 20; Top-10 finishes - 4; scoring average - 70.88 (ranked 45th); money $208,506 (ranked 21st); winner, Peek'n Peak Classic. Was able to get to the PGA Tour in 2007 with his finish on the Web.Com money list.
2007 Notes: Finished 135th on the money list, but improved his position on TOUR with his T23 finish at PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament. First career top-10 was a T5th at the Turning Stone Resort Championship.
2008 Notes: Doubled his earnings in his second season on PGA Tour, making more than $1.3 million with four top-10 finishes to finish 83rd on the money list and 40th in FedEx Cup standings.
2009 Notes: Ranked 75th on the FedEx Cup standings and a career-best No. 58 on the money list. Finished T6th at the Masters and T10th at the PGA Championship.
2010 Notes: Earned only top-10 of the season with a T3rd at the Reno-Tahoe Open, his third consecutive top-10 at Montreux G&CC. Had a career-best 23 cuts but finished outside the top-125 of the money list at 140th which forced a return to Q-School. Didn't regain his card and had to play 2011 in the non-exempt top-150 category.
2011 Notes: Was able to muster up enough starts (21) and finished 119th on the money list regaining exempt status for 2012.
2012 Notes: Equaled his career-best finish on the PGA Tour with a runner-up performance at the FedEx St. Jude Classic, finishing one shot off Dustin Johnson's winning pace of 9-under. Finished the year 93rd on the money list and 72nd in FedEx Cup standings.
In 2013 the UCLA graduate and Long Beach, Cal., native won the Northern Trust Open in his sixth start at Riviera CC to become the first player from Los Angeles County to win the event. Made a par 4 on the second playoff hole to defeat Charlie Beljan. Got his second top-ten of the year finishing T6th at the RBC Canadian Open.
