Robert Coles

Claimed his first professional victory when he won a play-off against Australian Steven Bowditch to win the 2003 BA CA Golf Open presented by Telekom Austria on the European Challenge Tour. That helped him finish 13th on the Rankings and spared him another trip to the Qualifying School Finals, where he endured some rollercoaster moments. Firstly was involved in a car crash three days before the 1998 tournament, but attempted to play. Shot 78 but had to withdraw after six holes of the second round. On return home, discovered two ribs were broken and was sidelined for eight weeks. He played mostly on the Challenge Tour in 1999, before returning to Qualifying School, where he earned the 19th spot. Even so, had to play through the pain barrier of cut wisdom teeth the week of the School and suffered from mouth ulcers! Unable to retain card in 2000 but produced a top performance at the Qualifying School, closing with a 66 at San Roque to claim the third card. He returned again to the School in 2001 and eagled the final hole to secure 33rd card right on the cut-off limit. No end-of-season anxiety in 2004 when a tie for third in the Omega European Masters enabled him to finish 88th on the Volvo Order of Merit. Worked briefly on his father's Petticoat Lane market stall to finance his early golf career. The Englishman has played for Great Britain & Ireland twice in the PGA Cup, winning it in 2009.
Played on the DP World Tour off and on between 1996 and 2013. Played in 390 events, making 168 cuts with 17 top ten finishes. He earned euro2,256,022. His best year was in 2011 when he earned euro437,586 and had his career best finish, 2nd at the Avantha Masters. Coles did play in 167 Challenge tour events, making 112 cuts with 28 top ten finishes. He won three times.
He started playing on the Legends Tour in 2022, made four starts with two top tens, T-7th at the Legends Open de France, and T-8th at the Farmfoods Europeans Senior Masters.
2023 Notes: Played in 14 Legends tour events with five top ten finishes. He was 22nd on the order of merit with earnings of euro102,697. Best finish 5th at the WCM Legends Open de France.
2024 Notes: Played in 16 Legends tour events with five top ten finishes. He was 9th on the order of merit with earnings of euro257,454. The Englishman won the Tourâ??s flagship event for his breakthrough, claiming the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship by one shot from Paul Lawrie. It meant he completed a memorable PGA double as he added the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship to the Senior PGA Professional Championship title he won back in May.
2025 Notes: Was T-52nd at the Staysure Marbello Legends, T-9th at the Barbados Legends, and T-12th at the OFX Irish Legends.
