Scott Piercy

Piercy, who helped lead his high school to a pair of state titles in soccer, credits his start in golf to a childhood friend. He cites winning the 2007 Ultimate Game at the Wynn Las Vegas G.& C.C., where he recorded a 5-under 31 on the back nine to overcome a three-stroke deficit with five holes to play, as his biggest thrill in golf. His closing rounds of 68-65 nailed down a first-place check of $2 million. The win came on his fifth wedding anniversary. In December 2007, he finished T-122nd in the PGA Tour Qualifying tournament to secure a spot on the Korn Ferry Tour. The longtime mini-tour player played his rookie season on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2008 and graduated to the PGA Tour the following year, after finishing ninth on the money list.

2012 Notes: At the RBC Canadian Open in July, Piercy opened with a course-record, eight-under-par 62 at Hamilton G.&C.C., then followed with three rounds of 67, and held on to win his second PGA Tour title by a stroke over Robert Garrigus and William McGirt. Was set to defend his 2011 Reno-Tahoe Open the next week, but the win in Canada produced his first invitation to the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio. Played in all four FedExCup Playoff events, finishing 27th in the standings and 27th on the money list with $2,699,205.
2013 Notes: Made 16 of 24 cuts on tour, with four top-10s. Finished 49th in the final FedExCup standings. Had four top-10s, with a best finish of 3rd at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, where he tied his career record for the low round with a 61 on the final day.
2014 Notes: It was a year of pain, which started at the HP Byron Nelson in 2013 when he injured his right arm. He had it treated with cortisone shots and continued to play, even racking up a T-5th at the PGA Championship. After that week, though, an MRI revealed the tendon in his right elbow was frayed. The problem became more severe in 2014, and was so painful at the WGC-Accenture, he withdrew from the Honda Classic and went to the Cleveland Clinic where doctors surgically repaired a torn Flexor Digitorum Superficialis in his right arm. After four months of rest and rehabilitation, he returned to play at the RBC Canadian Open, where he finished T-25th. Made seven cuts in 12 starts, ending the season ranked 166th in the FedExCup standings. Had 14 events on a Major Medical Extension in 2015 to earn 200 FedExCup points or $300,710.
2015 Notes: Played in his hometown event, the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Las Vegas, where he posted four rounds in the 60s to finish T-7th, six behind champion Ben Martin. Making his seventh start at the Sony Open in Hawaii, earned his Tour card with a runner-up finish. Followed a pair of three-under 67s in the first two rounds with a pair of 66s on the weekend, good for his first top-5 since a T-5th at the 2013 PGA Championship. Got another top-10 result at the Shell Houston Open en route to a course-record-tying, nine-under 63 in the first round. Three months later, played in the inaugural Barbasol Championship and put himself in contention in the third round when he birdied four of his last five holes. He kept the momentum in the final round, opening with a pair of birdies at holes 1 and 2, the latter by sinking an unlikely putt from 57 feet. Ensuing birdies at Nos. 5, 6, 9, 13, 14, and 16 resulted in a three-shot win over Alabama native Will Wilcox. Piercy claimed his third career PGA Tour victory at age 36 years, 8 months, 13 days in his 185th career Tour start. Won for the first time since his last victory, 55 starts earlier. Played in all four FedExCup Playoff events. A 15-under 269 at the BMW Championship produced a 3rd-place finish, seven strokes behind champion Jason Day. Advanced to the Tour Championship, where he finished 25th at East Lake GC. Ranked 22nd in the final FedExCup standings and 27th on the money list.
2016 Notes: After a quiet first part of his season, finished T-2nd at the U.S. Open and then 2nd at the WGC-Bridgestone. Both of those tournaments were won by Dustin Johnson. Piercy finished three back at Oakmont and one back at Firestone. Those two results shot Piercy from 66th in the Official World Golf Ranking to 25th. Finished the year 37th in the FedExCup standings and 29th on the money list.
2017 Notes: Opened the first event of the season, the Safeway Open, with 12 birdies en route to a course-record 62. Held the solo lead through the first two rounds in the weather-delayed event, but faltered with a third-round 73. Closed with a two-under 70 to finish 3rd. A week later in Malaysia, finished T-10th. After opening up at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba with scores of 65-66-66, he stumbled in the final round to shoot 70 and finish T-4th, four behind winner Pat Perez. Was T-7th at the Dean & DeLuca Invitational. After finishing 85th at the Travelers, he withdrew from several tournaments. After the Travelers, he was 64th in the FedExCup ranking, but not playing after that dropped his final position to 98th.
2018 Notes: Played in 26 PGA Tour events making 17 cuts with two top-ten finishes. Was 68th in the FedExCup standings. Started his year with a T-17th at the Safeway. Was T-6th at the CareerBuilder Challenge. Teamed with Billy Horschel to shoot a final-round 5-under 67 (Foursomes) to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans by one shot over Jason Dufner/Pat Perez. It was Piercy's 4th PGA Tour title in his 251st starts at the age of 39 years, 5 months, 23 days.
2019 Notes: Played in 24 PGA Tour events making 21 cuts with six top-ten finishes. Was 39th in the FedExCup standings. Finished T-5th at the CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges, opened with rounds of 70-65 to take the 36-hole lead by one shot over Brooks Koepka but carded weekend scores of 72-69 and finished nine shots back of winner Koepka. Shot four scores in the 60s to finish T-10th at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Earned third consecutive top-10 with a T-6th at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. Was T-10th at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, the week was highlighted by a second-round 65. Was T-3rd at the RBC Heritage, two shots back of winner C.T. Pan. Shot 63-64 over the weekend at the AT&T Byron Nelson to finish T-2nd, 2 shots back of winner Sung Kang. In the FedExCup Playoffs was T-67th in the Northern Trust and T-37th in the BMW Championship.
2020 Notes: Was T-6th at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, four shots back of the Simpson/Finau playoff.
