Carl Pettersson

Took up golf seriously at the age 10, having "messed around" with the game as a toddler near the course where he lived in Gothenburg, Sweden. Father, Lars, a low-handicap golfer, was an executive for Volvo Trucks Division, resulting in Carl living in England between the ages of 10 and 14, then his current home of North Carolina. Won the European Amateur Individual Championship in 2000 and represented Sweden in the Eisenhower Trophy before turning professional in September of that year. At college, won an NCAA event by four shots - but was disqualified for signing for an incorrect score.
Made a bright start to his European Tour career in 2001, finishing T-7 in the Carlsberg Malaysian Open and second in the Open de Argentina but surpassed that with seven top-ten finishes in addition to his victory at the 2002 Algarve Open de Portugal after a play-off with David Gilford. Finished 26th in the Volvo Order of Merit, the second-highest placed Swede behind Niclas Fasth. Attended the 2002 PGA Tour Qualifying School at the end of the year and qualified in 21st place.,
Since then has finished in the top 74 of the money list every year except for 2009 when he finished 136th. Has won five times on the PGA Tour, four of the wins coming in 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2012, all Ryder Cup years. Since he doesn't play in Europe and hasn't played on that tour since 2002, is a big longshot for ever making the European Ryder Cup team.
2011 Notes: Made 21 of 29 cuts to go with five top 10s and nine top 25s, finished 48th in the FedEx Cup standings and 52nd on the money list.
2012 Notes: Won the RBC Heritage by five shots over Zach Johnson. Also recorded second-place finishes at the Sony Open and the Shell Houston Open. Was T3rd at the PGA Championship, his best finish in a major. Had a total of six top-10s, and 10 top-25s as he played in all four of the FedEx Cup playoffs finishing 24th in the standings and finished a career best 13th on the money list with $3,538,656.
2013 Notes: Joined the European Tour in an effort to try and make the European Ryder Cup team in 2014. Only played in 8 events on that tour making 8 cuts. His best finish was T-9th in the Volvo World Match Play Championship in Bulgaria. On the PGA Tour made 19 of 24 cuts, but only recorded one top-10 finish. Rounds of 70-72-70 led to a 8th place finish at the season-opening and weather-shortened Hyundai Tournament of Champions. Ended the season 107th in the final FedExCup after a T54 finish at The Barclays in the FedExCup Playoffs.
2014 Notes: Had four top-10 finishes in 17 made cuts, best being a 3rd in the FedEx St. Jude Classic. Finished the season 63rd in the FedExCup standings and was 79th on the money list. Finished T-4th at the Puerto Rico Open, shooting rounds of 71-66-66-69. Finished T-7th at the Travelers Championship and was the only player in the field with all four rounds at 68 or better. Also a T9th at the Deutsche Bank Championship.
In 2015 got his first top-ten, a 5th at the Travelers, then a T-12th at John Deere and T-4th at Quicken Loans.
