Grant Waite

Waite was born in Palmerston North, New Zealand, but has played most of his golf in America. A three-time All-American at the University of Oklahoma, was twice the Australian Junior champion. A veteran on the PGA Tour, playing full-time on the circuit in 1990 and again from 1993-2004 he has played in 411 events. He has made 205 cuts, been in the top-10 22 times, including a win at the 1993 Kemper Open and five runner-ups. He got his card at Q-School at the end of 1989, finishing T-20th. He lost his card in 1990 and played several tours over the next couple years. At the end of 1992 he again finished T-20th at Q-School and in 1993 had a very successful year on tour winning the Kemper Open and finishing 35th on the money list. After 1993, it was a struggle to keep his card but had his most successful year on tour in 2000, he earned $1.15 million and finished 38th on the money list. He came close to winning twice in back to back weeks first at the Air Canada Championship. He finished second one shot back of Rory Sabbatini. The next week at the Canadian Open he again finished 2nd when Tiger Woods pulled off an incredible shot on the final hole from a fairway bunker to beat Waite by a shot. In 2005, Waite moved to the Web.Com Tour. In 106 starts on that tour never finished higher than his T-3rd finish at the 2006 BMW Charity Pro-Am.
At about that time, Waite was becoming more popular on tour as a swing guru, helping players like Mike Weir. Waite opened up several academies to help players with their swings, but he decided to give the PGA Tour Champions a run when he turned 50 in August of 2014. He played in three events, in his debut was T-49th at the Quebec Championship, then open-qualified to make the field at the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, where he finished T-10th. Then he finished T-38th at the AT&T Championship. After that went to PGA Tour Champions Q-School and finished second, four strokes back of eventual winner Frank Esposito Jr.
2015 Notes: Played his first full season on the PGA Tour Champions having an impressive showing at the U.S. Senior Open at Del Paso CC in Sacramento. Was the only player to post four consecutive rounds in the 60s, and that performance led to a T-3rd finish, his best effort in his Champions Tour career. Was also T-13th at the Encompass Championship. He was 44th on the money list and 33rd in Schwab rankings.
2016 Notes: Played in 18 PGA Tour Champions events and was in the top-ten once, T-10th at the Toshiba Classic. Finished 65th on the money list with $214,435 and was 67th in Schwab Ranking. Went back to Q-School and finished T-55th. Since then only played twice in 2017, T-69th at the Mississippi Gulf Resort Open and T-58th Mitsubishi Electric Classic.
2018 Notes: Only played once, 76th in the Rapiscan Systems Classic.
