Kelly Shon

Started playing golf at age 12 and placed second in the 2010 Nassau County Boys High School Tournament. Also qualified for the 2010 New York State boys championship. Competed on the boys' team at Schreiber High School for five years, helping them to three consecutive conference titles. Runner-up at the 2010 Nassau County boys high school tournament. Qualified for the 2010 New York State boys championship tournament. Won two AJGA events and was named among 20 freshman to watch by Golfweek Magazine in Sept. 2010. Qualified for the boys' state championship her senior year. A four-time Rolex Junior All-American.
She went to Princeton and was planning to work on Wall Street before she got her LPGA card.
Ivy League Player of the Year in her last two seasons at Princeton, 2012-13 and 2013-14, is now in her second season on the LPGA Tour. She played in 12 USGA events as an amateur, including the 2011 and 2012 U.S. Women's Opens. Won four collegiate tournaments: the Brown Invitational and Low Country Intercollegiate (S.C.) as a sophomore and the Lehigh Invitational in each of her last two years. She played in the 2011 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship and U.S. Women's Amateur, and made it to the round of 64 in each event. Advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2010 U.S. Women's Amateur and played in three U.S. Girls' Juniors from 2007-09. Third Ivy League player to compete on the LPGA Tour, joining Heather Daly-Donofrio (1998-2009) and Jeehae Lee (2009), both of Yale.
Born in South Korea. Family moved to Long Island when her father came to New York for a year to work at the Hospital for Special Surgery. She took up golf as a child to play with her mother and her mother's friends. Her given name is Woo-Jung Shon. She gave herself the nickname, Kelly, after watching a Barbie commercial when she was 8 years old.
2015 Notes: She earned her LPGA card for 2015 by finishing T-9th at 2014 Q school. Made the cut in 15 of 23 starts as a rookie, finishing 74th on the money list. Best finish was T-3rd at the ShopRite Classic. Was one shot off the lead late Sunday before making a double bogey on the 15th hole and a bogey on the 16th to finish three strokes behind winner Lexi Thompson.
2016 Notes: Played in 27 LPGA events, making 19 cuts. She had her only top-ten finish of the season with a T-9th at the Marathon Classic. Was 75th on the money list with $209,015 and 75th in CME points.
2017 Notes: Was T-9th at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship and shot a 63 in the second round.
