Mark Brooks

Began playing golf at age 8 while visiting his grandfather, an avid golfer. Obtained his PGA Tour card four times (1983, 1984, 1985, and 1987), finally keeping it after winning the 1988 Sammy Davis Jr. Greater Hartford Open in a playoff with Joey Sindelar and Dave Barr. Best year was 1996, when he won three times, including a one-hole playoff victory over Kenny Perry at the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. He competed full-time on the PGA Tour from 1984 to 2010, playing in 787 events, making 430 cuts, winning seven times and finishing in the top-10 58 times with earnings of $9.4 million. In total, he's played in 803 PGA Tour events. He was runner-up to Retief Goosen at the 2001 U.S. Open at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
Special interests include collecting vintage fountain pens, LGB toy trains, architectural models and prints, antiques, and historic golf prints. He joined PGA Tour Champions in April 2011, finishing runner-up at the Principal Charity Classic in June, where he was one stroke behind the winner, Bob Gilder. Finished 38th on the PGA Tour Champions money list with $422,884 in earnings.
2012 Notes: Finished 53rd on the money list in 22 starts, recording one top-10 - a T-6th at the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach.
2013 Notes: Finished among the top 25 four times in 23 starts, including a season-best T-17th finish at March's Toshiba Classic. Closed the year with three top-25 finishes in his final four events and was 68th on the money list.
2014 Notes: Turned in his best PGA Tour Champions season, finishing among the top-30 money-winners for the first time, thanks to a career-best four top-10 performances. Before the season, he had only registered a combined three top-10s in his first three years as a PGA Tour Champions member. Secured the final spot into the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship, edging out Rocco Mediate by $4,881. Came close to victory for the first time since the 2011 Principal Charity Classic when he lost to Scott Dunlap on the first playoff hole at the Boeing Classic in August. Earlier in the season, he showed signs of improved play when he closed with a 6-under 65 to finish T-5th at the Senior PGA Championship. His performance at Harbor Shores was his best in a PGA Tour Champions event since he was T-5th at the 2011 Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach. Recorded his second top-10 finish in a senior major championship by shooting 66 on the last day at Fox Chapel G.C., finishing T-6th in the Constellation Senior Players Championship. Finished the year 26th in the Schwab Ranking.
2015 Notes: A year after finishing 30th on the money list, slipped to 62nd on the final season list. Did not have a top-10 finish and had six top-25 finishes with a pair of T-15th being his best efforts at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf (with John Huston) and Toshiba Classic. Played in three PGA Tour events - Humana Challenge, Puerto Rico Open and PGA Championship, but missed the cut in all three.
2016 Notes: In 24 events best finish of the year, T-9th at the Constellation Senior Players. Was 49th on the money list and 50th on the Schwab ranking.
2017 Notes: Was T-10th at the Chubb Classic, T-8th at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic, and T-7th at the Insperity Invitational. Had the most top-tens since 2014. Advanced to the first round of the Charles Schwab Cup playoffs and finished 57th on the final Charles Schwab Cup money list.
2018 Notes: Played in 22 events. Best finish T-26th at the Bass Pro Shops Legends with partner John Huston.
2019 Notes: Played in 14 PGA Tour Champions with one top-25 finish. Finished 79th on the Charles Schwab Cup points list. Best finish T-12th Shaw Charity Classic.
2020 & 2021 Notes: Best finish before the COVID-19 break T-17th at the Chubb Classic. After the break was T-23rd at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship.
