Birdie Kim

Started playing golf at the age of 11. Credits her family as the individuals most influencing her career. Competed as Ju-Yun Kim in 2004, changed her first name to Birdie in 2004, in an effort to distinguish herself from the numerous other Korean golfers named Kim in women's golf. Married Bai Kyu Lee on Dec. 15, 2007. Was the silver medalist at the 1998 Asian Games. Was the 1998-99 Korea Junior Championship winner and from 1998-2000 was a member of the Korean National Team. Won a total of 19 tournaments in Korea as an amateur.
In 2001, joined the Futures Tour and won the Chumash Casino Futures Classic and the Southwestern Bell Futures Classic.
In 2003, finished fourth on the Futures Tour money list to earn exempt status for the 2004 LPGA season. Competed on the Futures Tour and won the Bank of Ann Arbor Futures Classic, and T-7th at the Korean Women's Open Championship.
In 2004, returned to the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament, where she T-12th to retain exempt status for the 2005 LPGA season.
In 2005, won her first event at the U.S. Women's Open with a two-stroke victory over amateurs Brittany Lang and Morgan Pressel at Cherry Hills Country Club in Cherry Hills Village, Colo., holing a wedge shot from the greenside bunker on the final hole to become the 14th player in LPGA history to make the U.S. Women's Open her first career win.
In 2006, best finish was a T-19th at the Safeway International.
In 2007, recorded two top-10 finishes, including second at The Mitchell Company LPGA Tournament of Champions, where she crossed the $1 million mark in career earnings.
In 2008, best finish was a T-14th at the HSBC Women's Champions.
In 2009, best finish was a T-29th at the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic.
In 2010, played in only two events, missing the cut in both, and spent the rest of the year recovering from injuries that she incurred in a August 2009 auto accident, in which she was in the back seat of a car that was slammed from the side. Several bones in the left side of her face were fractured or displaced. Two surgeries were required to repair them. Her neck and shoulder were so stiff and sore that she couldn't swing a club for more than six months.
In 2011, Kim played 11 tournaments, but made only two cuts and finished outside the top-125 on the money list.
2013 Notes: Competed in the U.S. Womens? Open Championship and an additional 14 events on the Symetra Tour. She made 11 cuts, earned $24,528 (20). She had three top-10 finishes, best finish T2 at the Four Winds Invitational.
2013 Notes: Played in 12 Symetra Tour events, making 11 cuts. Earned $13,143, which placed her 41st on the money list. Two top-10 finishes, best finish T7 at the Florida's Natural Charity Classic.
2014 Notes: Played once on the Symetra Tour, T-22nd at Volvik Championship. On the LPGA Tour, played in 8 events and only made one cut, T-67th at Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA.
In 2015 playing on the Symetra Tour, has played in seven events: Cut at Gateway Classic at Longbow Golf Course, Cut at Volvik Championship, T-53rd at Florida's Natural Charity, cut at Mission Health Wellness Classic, Cut at Symetra Classic, Cut at Four Winds Invitational and T-28th at Island Resort Championship.
