Brad Elder

Elder got his start in golf from his father. He attended the University of Texas and won the Haskins Award for most outstanding collegiate golfer in 1997, his senior year. He also won the Jack Nicklaus award, which recognizes top players in college. He ended his amateur career as a member of the 1997 Walker Cup. Elder turned professional and debuted on the Web.Com Tour in 1998, playing five Web.com Tour starts, making two cuts (one as an amateur and one as a pro). He received an exemption into the Greater Austin Open and was in sixth, two shots off Michael Allen's lead, when the final round began. He shot a final-round 81, including a triple bogey-8 on the par-5 closing hole to drop into T-14th.
In 1999, he won twice on the Web.Com Tour, first at the Wichita Open and then the Empire Open. He finished the season 11th on the money list to secure PGA Tour membership for 2000.
During his rookie season on the PGA Tour, he made 20 of 34 cuts and earned $700,738, good for 68th on the money list, and his first-year earnings were third-best among 2,000 rookies. On his second year on tour in 2001, Elder dropped to 128th on the money list, and he had to return to Qualifying School, where he was able to retain his card finishing T-8th.
In 2002, he suffered a shoulder injury and missed two months of play. He stayed on tour even though he was 147th in putting. After 2003 he was back on the Web.Com Tour where he played between 2004 and 2007. He finished 17th on the money list in 2007, earning him a spot on the PGA Tour in 2008. In 2007, he recorded his third win on the Web.com win.
In 2008, he missed 14 of 23 cuts, recording one top-ten (T-8th at the Viking Classic). He has played full time on the Web.Com Tour since.
