Tennis was his main sport as a young athlete, but in high school, he switched to golf. Made the USC golf team as a walk-on, joining teammates and future PGA Tour players Sam Randolph and John Flannery.
Was the leading money-winner on the 1989 Golden State Tour.
Played on the Web.com Tour in 1991, 1992, 2004 and 2005. Made 101 starts with three wins, two runner-up finishes, and ten top-10 finishes. Made 48 cuts and $274,184 in earnings. Finished second on the Web.com Tour money list in 1992 which got him on the PGA Tour in 1993.
Played on the PGA Tour between 1993 and 2006. In 310 starts won twice, was runner-up twice and had 18 top-10 finishes. Made the cut 170 times with earnings of $3.3 million.
2013 Notes: Played via the Career Victory Category and made his PGA Tour Champions debut at the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic, where he finished T-44th. Recorded his first (and only for the year) PGA Tour Champions top-10 when he was T-6th at the Pacific Links Hawaii Championship. Trailed by three strokes after 36 holes, but a final-round 72 dropped him back. Was 59th on the money list.
2014 Notes: Had a frustrating season while battling injuries. Played in just eight events before being sidelined for the remainder of the season following surgery for a torn tendon in his left elbow shortly after playing in the Senior PGA Championship. Had struggled early in the season after coming back from offseason surgery for a torn meniscus in his right knee. His best showing in his eight starts was a T-30th at the ACE Group Classic. Will play some events in 2015 on a Special Medical Extension. Is also expected to do some TV work for Golf Channel.
2015 Notes: Open-qualified for the Allianz Championship and made his first PGA Tour Champions start since May 2014 at the Senior PGA Championship. Was T-68th in Boca Raton after rehabbing most of last season from surgery to repair a torn tendon in his left elbow. Two weeks after turning in his career-best performance on the PGA Tour Champions with a T-4th finish at the Senior PGA Championship, he went two steps better with a career-best T-2nd finish at The Principal Charity Classic. Was 41st on the money list and 35th in the Schwab rankings. Went to Q-School to get his full exemption back but finished T-13th.
2016 Notes: Played in 18 events with four Tip-5 finishes. Best was T-12th at the Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship. Finished 70th on the money list and Schwab Rankings. Returned to Champions Tour Q-School finishing T-14th.
