Carlota Ciganda

She started playing golf at age 5 and credits her father as the biggest influence on her career. Ciganda enjoyed a successful amateur career, winning the 2007 British Amateur Championship and the 2004 and 2008 European Championship. She was the Spanish national champion from 2000-06. She was a member of the 2006 and 2008 Spain Women's World Amateur Team, the 2005 and 2007 European Junior Solheim Cup Team, and the 2004 and 2006 European Junior Ryder Cup Team. While at Arizona State University, she made conference history by becoming the first player to win back-to-back Pac-10 Championships in 2009 and 2010.
She played in a number of professional tournaments as an amateur and first took part in the 2005 Tenerife Ladies Open at age 14. Although she did not make the cut on that occasion, she finished as the best Spanish representative in several professional tournaments, including the 2007 Open de Espana, when she finished eighth, and the 2008 Tenerife Ladies Open, when she was third and three shots behind winner Rebecca Hudson.
In May 2011, Carlota turned professional, and in June, she finished 2nd to Becky Brewerton in her professional debut at the Tenerife Ladies Match Play, which was a non-official event on the LET schedule. She competed on the Ladies European Tour Access Series in 2011, winning the Murcia Ladies Open. She T-34th at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament, where she earned Priority List Category 20 for the 2012 LPGA season. She finished 3rd at the LET Final Qualifying School tournament to earn membership in category 8a.
2012 Notes: Her first full season on the LET, Ciganda was Rolex Rookie of the Year, won the ISPS Handa Order of Merit, and was named Players' Player of the Year by the LET members. She played in 19 tournaments, posted two victories at the Deloitte Ladies Open and China Suzhou Taihu Open, and had 10 additional top-10 finishes. She ended the season ranked second on the European Solheim Cup points list with total earnings of euro251,289.95.
2013 Notes: Played on both the LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour. In 19 events on the LPGA Tour, she made 16 cuts and earned $355,949, placing 40th on the money list. She had two top-10 finishes, with her runner-up finish coming at the North Texas LPGA Shootout. On the Ladies European Tour, she played in 12 tournaments and had nine top-10s. Her best finish was a T-2nd at Turkish Airlines Ladies Open and a 2nd at the China Suzhou Taihu Open. She ended the year finishing 3rd at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters and fifth on the Order of Merit. Competed on her first European Solheim Cup team, posting a 3-0-0 record.
2014 Notes: She was 44th on the money list and eighth in CME points. She made a drastic move up the money and points list on the year's final event when she finished T-2nd at the CME Group Tour Championship. She made 18 cuts in 23 starts. She only had one top-10 with the T-2nd at the CME Group Tour Championship, where she lost to Lydia Ko on the fourth hole of a sudden-death playoff. Ciganda had a chance to win on the third extra hole but missed a 5-foot birdie putt. She was fifth on the Ladies European Tour money list playing in eight events, with four top-10s and a best finish 2nd at the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters. She was part of the Spanish team that won the inaugural International Crown. Ciganda beat Na Yeon Choi of Korea, 8 and 6, on the final day as Spain finished 4-0 in singles play.
2015 Notes: In 25 starts, she made 19 cuts, had three top-10s, and was 42nd on the money list and 53rd in CME points. She had the best finish of her LPGA career with a solo 2nd at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational when she shot a final-round 63, three back of winner Inbee Park. She was T-4th at the ANA Inspiration, two strokes out of the Lincicome-Lewis playoff. Played on the European Solheim Cup team for the second time and was 1-1-2 in the Matches. She halved her singles match with Lexi Thompson, missing a 5-foot par putt on the last hole, which would have ultimately secured the retention of the Cup for defending champion Europe, who lost 14.5-13.5.
2016 Notes: She earned her first two LPGA victories in 2016 at the KEB Hana Bank Championship and the Lorena Ochoa Invitational. She played in 26 events and was 14th on the money list with $1,116,289 and 17th in CME points with seven top-10s. She was second at the Meijer Classic, losing a playoff to Sei Young Kim. Ciganda made just two bogeys in regulation, but another bogey on the first playoff hole helped Kim to victory. She was T-39th at the Rio Olympics as a member of Spain's women's golf team.
2017 Notes: She played in 22 LPGA events making 20 cuts. She had 7 top-10 finishes and was 24th on the money list. Best finish was T-3rd at the Swinging Skirts LPGA Taiwan Championship, also T-4th at the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open. T-5th at the Kingsmill Championship and at the U.S. Women's Open. Played on the European Solheim Cup team for the third time, and was 1-3-0 in the Matches.
2018 Notes: Played in 25 LPGA Tour events making 22 cuts with nine top-ten finishes. Was runner-up at the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic and T-2nd at the Toto Japan Classic, 2 shots back of winner Nasa Hataoka. She was 3rd at the U.S. Women's Open 4 shots back of the Jutanugarn/Hyo Joo Kim playoff. She earned $1,244,610 and was ranked 8th. Was 11th in the Race to CME. Played in four LET events, best finish T-5th at the ASI Ladies Scottish Open.
2019 Notes: Played in 23 LPGA events making 22 cuts with eight top-ten finishes. She was 15th on the money list with earnings of $998,654. Finished 15th on the CME points list. Ciganda was 3rd at the Honda LPGA Thailand after shooting 63 in the final round to finish two shots back of winner Amy Yang. She was T-2nd at the Founders Cup, a shot back of winner Jin Young Ko. She was T-4th at the ANA Inspiration, 5 shots back of winner Jin Young Ko. Finished T-6th at the Pure Silk Championship, 4 shots back of winner Bronte Law. Also, T-6th at the Walmart NW Arkansas. Traveling over to Europe was 10th at the Evian Championship, 7th at the AIG Women's Open, and T-5th at the CP Women's Open. Playing in the Solheim Cup, her fourth played, had a record of 1-2-2. She won her singles match, beating Danielle Kang 1 up.
2020 Notes: Played in just 12 LPGA events making 11 cuts with three top-ten finishes. She was 20th on the money list with $477,707 in earnings and finished 27th on the CME points list. Was T-3rd at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship and T-4th at the LPGA Drive On Championship Reynolds Lake Oconee. The following week missed the cut at the U.S. Women's Open, ending her streak of 28 straight cuts on the LPGA Tour.
2021 Notes: Played in 23 LPGA Tour events making 20 cuts with two top-ten finishes. She was 58th on the CME points list and 61st on the money list earning $329,944. Was T-7th at the HSBC Women's Champions. She qualified for the Tokyo Olympics as a member of Spain's team and finished T-29th. Was T-5th at the Cambia Portland Classic, seven shots back of winner Jim Young Ko. Played in the Solheim Cup for the fifth time in 2021 and was 1-2-0, losing to Brittany Altomare in the singles 2 & 1. She ended her LPGA season, finishing T-35th at the CME Group Tour Championship. On the LET, she played in six events, was T-3rd at the Saudi Ladies International, T-3rd at the Aramco Team Series Jeddah, and won the Andalucia Open De Espana. Ciganda finished 14th in the Race to Costa del Sol and won euro181,770 on the LET.
2022 Notes: Played in 24 LPGA Tour events, making 17 cuts with four top-ten finishes. She was 33rd on the money list with $826,614 in earnings and was 42nd in CME Points. Shot a closing round 64 to finish 5th at the Cognizant Founders Cup, four shots back of winner Minjee Lee. Shot a closing round of 67 to finish T-5th at the Meijer LPGA Classic, two shots back of the Jennifer Kupcho/Leona Maguire/Nelly Korda playoff. On the LET Tour was 5th at the Saudi Ladies International and won the Estrella Damm Ladies Open by two shots over Laura Beveridge. Finished T-3rd at the Amundi Evian Championship, two shots back of winner Brooke M. Henderson. Was T-7th at the Andalucia Open De Espana and in the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship, was T-54th.
2023 Notes: Was T-5th at the DIO Implant LA Open, four shots back of the winner Ruoning Yin. She won the Aramco Team Series - Florida by one shot over Klara Spilkova despite a final round 73. Was T-5th at the Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play, she lost her Quarterfinals match to Pajaree Anannarukarn 3 & 2. Shot a final round 64 to finish T-3rd, two shots back of winner Ruoning Yin.
