Clark Dennis

Dennis was born in Houston, Texas. He played college golf at the University of Arkansas and Southern Methodist University. He turned professional in 1986. He won the Texas State Junior in 1983. He was the Nevada State Open Champion in 1988 and Newport Classics champion in 1992 and 1993.
He got his PGA Tour card in Q-School in 1989, finishing T-50th. He played full-time on the PGA Tour in 1990, 1991, 1994, 1995, 1998, and 1999. He played 211 PGA Tour events, making 88 cuts and finishing in the top-10 nine times. His best finish was 3rd in the 1990 Hawaiian Open and 1998 Kemper Open. He earned a total of $1,154,975. His best year came in 1998 when he finished 75th on the money list with $401,440.
He played on the Korn Ferry Tour full-time in 1993, 1996, 1997, and 2000. He played in 98 events, making 53 cuts. He tallied 13 top-10 finishes, including one win at the 1993 Bakersfield Open, and earned $201,167. He had his best year in 1997, finishing 21st on the money list.
He left golf in the late 90s to make ends meet by working two jobs. He started playing again about 10 years later and made the Q-School finals, earning an exemption onto the Korn Ferry. He played in eight events, making two cuts. As he neared 50, he began preparing to play on the PGA Tour Champions. He played in the American Family Insurance Championship in 2016, finishing T-36th and earning $10,425.
As for USGA championships, Dennis qualified for the 1983 U.S. Amateur but did not make match play. He has played in five U.S. Opens. He finished T-43rd in 1989 and T-6th in 1994 but missed the cut in 1988, 1995, and 2001. He played in the 2016 U.S. Senior Open, where he missed the cut by three strokes.
Has played on the PGA Tour Champions for the last two years. He played in five events in 2016, making the cut four times. His best finish came at the American Family Insurance Championship, where he T-36th.
2017 Notes: Earned his European Staysure Tour card at the 2017 Qualifying School Final Stage. After four top-five finishes in the 2017 season, he secured his first title at the Senior Italian Open, defeating Peter Fowler in a playoff. Two tournaments later, he won his second event, the Dutch Masters. He became the first American to win the John Jacobs Trophy for topping the Order of Merit in 2017 and was also named Rookie of the Year that same season.
On the PGA Tour Champions Tour, shot three-under at the 2017 Principal Charity Classic to finish T-29th. He missed the cut at the U.S. Senior Open. Went to PGA Tour Champions Q-School and finished T-47th.
2018 Notes: On the European Staysure Tour, he was able to defend his Senior Italian Open title by beating Rafael Gomez in a one-hole playoff. He also was T-2nd at the Sharjah Senior Golf Masters, losing to Thaworn Wiratchant in a 4-hole playoff. He won the Senior Italian Open beating Rafael Gonez in a playoff. He was T-2nd at the Willow Senior Golf Classic and 2nd at the Travis Perkins Masters. He won the MCB Tour Championship - Mauritius by 8 shots. Played in 11 events with six top-ten finishes, was 4th on the Staysure Tour Order of Merit with euro259,240.
As a Monday Qualifier on the PGA Tour Champion Tour at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic finished in 7th for the season's first top-10 by a Monday Qualifier. He also had an 8th-place finish at the Principal Charity Classic. He played 12 PGA Tour Champions events and was 60th in the Schwab Cup money race.
2019 Notes: Only starts on the PGA Tour Champions T-20th at the Insperity Invitational, missed cut at the Senior PGA Championship, T-38th at the U.S. Senior Open, and T-46th at the Senior Open Championship. On the European Legends Tour played in 16 events with five top-ten finishes. Was 9th on the Order of Merit, winning euro142,416. He won the WINSTONgolf Senior Open by a shot over Jose Maria Olazabal. He ended his year with a T-4th finish at the MCB Tour Championship - Madagascar, two shots back of winner Barry Lane. He was also T-3rd at the MCB Tour Championship - Mauritius, four shots back of winner Jarmo Sandelin.
2020 & 2021 Notes: With COVID-19 shutting down European access, Dennis was forced to play in mini-tour events like the All-Pro Tour in Texas. He played in the 2021 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship and 2021U.S. Senior Open, missing the cut, and was T-16th at the 2021 Senior Open. He played in 11 European Legends events in 2021 and finished 14th on the Order of Merit. His best finishes was 5th at the Legends French Open, T-5th at the Farmfoods European Senior Masters, four shots back of winner Markus Brier and T-7th at the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship.
2022 Notes: Played in 15 Legends Tour events with three top-ten finishes. He was 14th in the Order of Merit. He didn't play well until the end of the season and was T-3rd at the Farmfoods European Senior Masters, three shots back of the Paul Lawrie/Michael Jonzon playoff. Was 4th a the MCB Tour Championship - Seychelles six shots back of winner Joakim Haeggman. Was T-4th at the MCB Tour Championship - Mauritius, 8 shots back of winner Thomas Bjorn. Was T-5th, four shots back of the winner Padraig Harrington at the Ascension Charity Classic.
2023 Notes: Played in 16 Legends Tour events with three top-ten finishes. He was 20th in the Order of Merit. Best finish T-8th at the Irish Legends and MC Tour Championship Mauritius, T-9thh at the Italian Senior Open.
2024 Notes: After Monday qualifying, finished T-6th in the weathered-shortened 36-hole Invited Celebrity Classic. He was five shots back of the winner Paul Broadhurst, it was his fourth top ten on the PGA Tour Champions and his first since his T-5th at the 2022 Ascension Charity Classic..
