Berganio was introduced to golf by a local priest, who gave him his first set of clubs while he was growing up in a poor section of Los Angeles

* At Arizona, played on the same golf team with Jim Furyk
* Played on the 1993 Walker Cup team.
* Qualified for the PGA Tour in 1997 by finishing in the top-5 of the Nike Tour money list. He did it thanks in part to finishing T-2nd in three of his last six Nike Tour events in 1996.
Returned to the Nike Tour in 1998 and missed nine weeks after breaking his ribs in a pickup basketball game
