Freddie Jacobson

Jacobson was a promising hockey player at age 10. However, one of the players at his club, Per Nellbeck, was also the local golf professional and taught the entire Jacobson family to play. Jacobson's first handicap was 40, but reached scratch five years later at age 15. Was ranked top-30 in Swedish table tennis at age 14-15. In 1999, missed first three months after breaking left thumb playing hockey for golf professionals vs. tennis players. Underwent surgery and returned in March to finish third, second and second in successive starts.
Won several notable titles in amateur golf before turning professional in 1994.
After 160 events as a professional, claimed his breakthrough victory on the European Tour when he won the Omega Hong Kong Open, the second event of the 2003 season... Won again three tournaments later in the Algarve Open de Portugal... Victory was all the more remarkable considering it was his first start back after a 10-week layoff due to a wrist injury... Ended European Tour season with third victory of 2003 at the Volvo Masters at Valderrama, defeating Spain's Carlos Rodiles in a four-hole playoff.
Joined the PGA Tour in 2003 having finished among the top 125 as a non-member in just four starts.
2011 Notes: Best PGA Tour season included his first win at the Travelers Championship and a career-best 29th-place finish in the FedEx Cup... Finished third at CIMB Asia Pacific Classic in Malaysia then runner-up at the WGC-HSBC Champions in Shanghai, China... Started year 131st in world rankings, finished year 39th.
2012 Notes: His game suffered from a thumb injury which limited his play to just 17 events... Only had one top-ten, T-8th while defending at Travelers, six top-25s, was 105th in FedEx Cup standings and 104th on money list.
2013 Notes: Found himself healthy again and showed that with three top-tens on the west coast swing... Best finish for the year was T-3rd in Northern Trust, he was 72nd in the FedEx Cup race and 71st in the money totals.
2014 Notes: Played in 27 events and made the cut in 19 of them. Had three top-tens including his best T-2nd at the Wyndham Championship and T-3rd at the Crowne Plaza Invitational Colonial. Finished 66th in the FedExCup race and 48th on the money race.
2015 Notes: Was a trying year as his 7-year-old son, Max was diagnosed with a heart defect. Max underwent open-heart surgery on Aug. 3 to fix the anomalous origin of the right-coronary artery. Because of the time off in his family matter only played in 14 events making 10 cuts. His best finish was T-7th at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. He didn't play after Colonial in May. Because of this finished 167th on the FedExCup list missing for the first time the playoffs. He was granted a extension for the 2016 season.
2016 Notes: Satisfied the medical requirements with a solo fifth-place finish at The RSM Classic. Also had a pair of back-to-back T-4s at the Farmers Insurance Open and AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
