Gary Orr

Turned professional in 1988 and became assistant at Burhill GC in Surrey. Graduated to the European Tour on his third attempt at Qualifying School in 1992 and named Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year after finishing 30th in the Order of Merit the following year. Had a 20-year career on the European Tour between 1993 and 2012. He played in 478 European Tour events, making 331 cuts with 44 top-10 finishes. His best year was 2000, he played in 26 events making 24 cuts with 8 top-ten finishes. He won twice, first at the Algarve Portuguese Open and then the Victor Chandler British Masters. He was runner-up twice at the Alfred Dunhill Championship and the BBVA Open Turespana Masters. For the year finished 10th on the Order of Merit earning euro1,009.473.
Back problems started to hinder him in 2008 and caused him to play in only 11 events in 2010. He tried to return but it was a struggle in 2011 and 2012, so bad that he had to return to Q-School at the Catalunya Resort in November 2012 He became the second oldest player to secure a European Tour card at the Final Stage when, at 45 years and 202 days, he finished 28th Ã?¢ââ??‰â?¬Å? the last qualifying spot. But he only was able to play in nine events in 2003 and retired after finishing T-42nd at the Italian Open.
2017 Notes: Made his Staysure Tour debut at the inaugural European Tour Properties Senior Classic finishing T-9th. He played in 10 events finishing in the top-10 five times, his best finish was 2nd at the Willow Senior Golf Classic, five shots back of winner Barry Lane. He won euro108,088 and was 15th in the Staysure Tour Order of Merit.
2018 Notes: Played in 12 Staysure Tour events finishing in the top-10 seven times. He won twice back to back toward the end of the season at the Scottish Senior Open and the Paris Legends Championship. He also finished T-2nd at the Willow Senior Golf Classic two shots back of winner Peter Fowler. He won euro213,926 and was 8th in the Staysure Tour Order of Merit.
2019 Notes: Finished T-13th at the Senior Italian Open and the Senior Open Hauts de France. This will be his first tournament in America since he missed the cut at the 2001 PGA Championship. He did play once in the U.S. Open, finishing T-74th in 2001.
