A renowned golf course architect, Player has more than 200 design projects located throughout the world. One of his special interests is breeding thoroughbred racehorses. His Gary Player Stud Farm has received worldwide acclaim for breeding top horses, including 1994 English Derby entry Broadway Flyer. Operates The Player Foundation, with its primary objective to promote education for underprivileged children. The Foundation built the Blair Atholl Schools in Johannesburg, South Africa, which has educational facilities for more than 500 students from kindergarten through eighth grade and supports other educational projects throughout the world.
* After playing in 52 Masters (most of anyone) over the course of 53 years (missed 1973 due to surgery), Player retired from playing at the Masters in 2009. In 2012, joined Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer as an Honorary Starter. He is scheduled to do it again in 2023, along with Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson.
* One of only five players to win all four major championships, joining Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods.
* The only player in the 20th century to win the British Open in three different decades.
* Leading money-winner on the PGA Tour in 1961.
* Winner of more than 162 tournaments around the world, including 1959, '68 and '74 British Open, 1988, '90 and '97 British Senior Open, the South African Open (13 times), the Australian Open (seven times), and the World Series of Golf (three times).
* Won his first PGA Tour Champions start at the 1985 Quadel Seniors.
* Claims that he has logged more miles traveling around the world (16 million and still counting) than any other athlete in history.
* Captain of the International Team at the Presidents Cup in 2003, '05 and '07.
* In 2012, was honored with the PGA Tour's Lifetime Achievement Award, joining a list of recipients that includes friends Nicklaus and Palmer, as well as Byron Nelson, Sam Snead, and former President George H.W. Bush.
*Player is the father of six, and a grandfather of 22. At 87 he says that he still does 200 sit-ups a day and is in a gym 90 minutes a day.
