Gene Jones

His parents got him started in the game of golf at the young age of two. His father is a golf professional in the Orlando area. Co-medalist at the 2007 Q-school along with Rick Rhoden. Prepared for the Champions Tour by playing on the Sunbelt Senior Tour and was the leading money winner from 2005-2007. Played on the PGA Tour in 1993, and in 21 starts, his best finish was T-20th at the Hardee's Golf Classic. Made 21 starts on the Web.com Tour as well, including 11 in 1994, where he finished in the top-10 three times. Won the 2008 North Florida PGA Senior Open Championship and South Carolina Senior Open. In 2010, had problems with kidney stones, and sat out the 2011 season due to other medical issues.
In 2012, made five starts and participated in open-qualifying for three tournaments. First appearance of the year came after he open-qualified for the Insperity Championship and finished T-9 in the event, his top outing of the year. Posted a pair of sub-par rounds on the weekend at the Senior PGA Championship, which helped him to a T-19th finish in Michigan. Capped the season by claiming medalist honors for a second time at the Champions Tour National Qualifying Tournament at TPC Eagle Trace, a first in Champions Tour history. Posted rounds of of 66-68--134 in the second and third rounds, and a final-round of 70 that left him three strokes better than Jeff Brehaut.
2013 Notes: Played in 19 Champions Tour events, with his best finish being a T-18th at the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic, where he finished at 3-under par. T-22nd at the SAS Championship after shooting rounds of 73-69-68.
Has only played in one event thus far in 2014, the Constellation Senior Players Championship, where he carded scores of 69-72-68-75 to finish T-58th.
