Haydn Porteous

Porteous won many amateur tournaments in South Africa, including back-to-back South African Amateur Stroke Play Championship victories in 2012 and 2013. The Johannesburg player turned professional in August 2013 and hit the ground running on the Sunshine Tour the following year with eight top five finishes in his rookie season. Made his European breakthrough in April 2015 in spectacular fashion when he sealed a maiden Challenge Tour title, as a sponsor?s invite, at the Barclays Kenya Open. Up against his friend and compatriot Brandon Stone in a play-off, Porteous?s drive on the first extra hole ? the par four 12th ? rolled to within seven feet of the pin and an eagle two sealed victory. Although he missed out on graduation to the European Tour later that year, his star would soon shine again as he soared to a hometown victory at the 2016 Joburg Open ? coincidentally, a week after Stone, the man he conquered in Kenya, had also joined the winner?s circle on the top tier.
