Jerry Smith

Represents the fourth generation in his family in the golf industry. Credits his father, a golf course superintendent for more than 35 years, for getting him involved in golf. Has worked as a club professional in his career. Was the assistant professional at Edmundson Golf Course in Oskaloosa, Iowa, as well as Three Crowns Golf Course in Wyoming. His oldest brother, Jeff, is an Iowa PGA Professional and a former Iowa PGA Section president and PGA of America District Director. A big basketball fan, he supports the Los Angeles Lakers but also follows all college sports and enjoys playing pool and table tennis.
Has played on numerous golf tours worldwide, including the PGA Tour, Web.com Tour, Asian Tour, PGA Tour Champions, South American Tour and the European Senior Tour, among others. Played the PGA Tour full-time from 2000-02 and again from 2006-07. Made 153 starts in his tour career and earned $1.9 million, with his best season coming in 2001 when he finished 85th on the money list ($592,030). Best finish that year was a 3rd in the National Car Rental Golf Classic Disney. Was also T-8th that year at the Air Canada Championship. Finished sixth on the 2005 Web.com Tour money list, which earned him a spot back on the PGA Tour the following year. Was a two-time runner-up on the Web.com Tour in 2005 and finished third three times. Was one of four players to tie at 22-under-par 266 at the Chattanooga Classic along with Scott Weatherly, Joe Daley, and Jason Schultz before Schultz prevailed over Daley on the sixth hole. Smith and Weatherly were out earlier. He was also T-2nd that year at the Permian Basin Charity Golf Classic. Won the 1998 Guam Open while competing on the Asian Omega Tour. Led the Gateway Tour Desert Series money list in 2004 with three victories and a scoring average of 68.02.
2014 Notes: Took a big risk when he changed to a new putter on the final day of European Senior Tour Qualifying School but it paid off as a final round of 66 earned him the third card on offer in Portugal's Algarve and a maiden season in European golf.
In three PGA Tour starts, he finished T-75th in the Principal Charity Classic, T-64th at the Senior Open Championship and missed the cut in the U.S. Senior Open. Qualified for the PGA Championship but missed the cut after rounds of 80-78 at Valhalla. Earned fully exempt status for 2015 by finishing T-3rd at the Champions Tour Q-School. Rebounded from an opening-round 74 to shoot rounds of 69-68-71 to secure his playing privileges for 2015.
2014 European Seniors Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 12; top-10 finishes - 3; euros54,083 (ranked 29th); Best finish T-6th SSE Scottish Senior Open.
2015 Notes: Had an outstanding rookie season on the PGA Tour Champions, which he capped by winning Rookie of the Year honors. Season highlights included finishing among the circuit's top-30 money-winners (was 28th) as well as winning his first victory at the Encompass Championship near Chicago. Also played on the European Senior Tour in six starts his best finish was T-3rd at the Swiss Seniors Open. Was 26th on the order of merit with earnings of 50,44 016 euros.
2016 Notes: Played in 26 events, was in contention throughout the weekend at the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic but saw his chances slip away Sunday when he played his final three holes in 4-over-par. He finished T-3rd. Finished T-10th with teammate Tom Jenkins at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf. Weekend rounds of 67-68 were instrumental in his fifth-place finish at the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach. Finished 32nd on the money list and 34th in the Schwab Rankings.
2017 Notes: Played in 25 events and made it through to the Charles Schwab Cup Championship. Was in the top-ten, 3 times, T-6th Chubb Classic, T-9th at the Dick's Sporting Goods Open and 2nd Boeing Classic, Jerry Kelly birdied two of the final three holes to win the event by a shot over Smith. Was 35th on the money list and 33rd in Schwab Rankings.
2018 Notes: Played in 23 PGA Tour Championship with three top-ten finish. Was T-7th Boca Raton Championship. T-2nd at the Sanford International, he opened with a first round 63 and finished 4 shots back of winner Steve Stricker. Was T-10th at the Invesco QQQ. Advanced to the second Playoffs event, the Invesco QQQ Championship, but finished 38th in the standings, failing to advance to the Charles Schwab Cup Championship.
2019 Notes: Played in 21 PGA Tour champions events with two top-25 finishes. Was 62nd on the final Schwab rankings. Best finish T-12th at the Ally Challenge.
2020 & 2021 Notes: Best finish T-20th in the 2021 Cologuard Classic.
