McGill has an impressive amateur record that includes winning the 1993 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship and the 1994 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship. She finished as runner-up in the 1994 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship and was a member of the 1994 U.S. Curtis Cup Team. As a collegiate player at the University of Southern California, McGill finished fourth at the 1994 NCAA Championship and was a two-time All-American.
In 1995, as a competitor on the Women Professional Golfers' European Tour (WPGET), tied for second at the Weetabix Women's British Open and finished 10th on the WPGET Order of Merit; qualified for the Tour by tying for ninth at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament to earn exempt status for the 1996 LPGA season.
In 1996, best finish was a tie for 12th at the Rochester International.
In 1997, recorded her first two LPGA career holes-in-one, during the second round of the SAFECO Classic and the third round of the Fieldcrest Cannon Classic; best finish was a tie for 26th at the First Bank Presents the Edina Realty LPGA Classic.
In 1998, best finish was a tie for eighth at the Rainbow Foods LPGA Classic; returned to the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament, where she finished 11th to gain exempt status for the 1999 LPGA season.
In 1999, recorded a season-best tie for fourth at the Firstar LPGA Classic.
In 2000, best finishes were a tie for 10th at the LPGA Takefuji Classic and a tie for 11th at the Los Angeles Women's Championship.
In 2001, recorded a season-best finish at the Michelob Light Classic, where she tied for second and fired a career-low 63 during the final round.
In 2002, best finish was a tie for eighth at the Sports Today CJ Nine Bridges Classic; tied for 12th at the U.S. Women's Open; tied for 28th and crossed the $1 million mark in career earnings at the First Union Betsy King Classic.

In 2004, best finish was a tie for third at the Wachovia LPGA Classic.

In 2007, best finish was a tie for 14th at the Ginn Tribute.
In 2008, recorded a season-best tie for third at the MasterCard Classic, where she crossed the $2 million mark in career earnings. Also tied for sixth at the Navistar LPGA Classic, where she carded a season-low 65 in the first round.
In 2009, recorded a season-best tie for 14th at the Corona Championship.
