Jim Colbert

Was introduced to golf as a boy of eight by his father, jim enjoyed quick success. He won the Kansas City junior championship at 11 and then won the Kansas and the Missouri amateur titles wile a teenage. Still his sport was football and he went to Kansas State on a football scholarship playing halfback. As a freshman got hit very hard which changed his mind on football and played more golf. In 1964 playing for the Kansas State golf team was runner-up in the NCAA Championship. Graduated right aftere with a degree in political science, he became an insurance agent and played golf, winning he Kansas amateur in 1965. Thought he was good enough, turned pro and made it through Q-school joining the PGA Tour in 1966.
Played on the PGA Tour between 1966 and 1987, playing in 525 events. Won eight times, was runner-up six times and 3rd, seven times. Finished in the top-ten 71 times and made 436 cuts. Had career earnings of $1,553,136. Left the Tour to become a very successful color analyst for ESPN until he turned 50 in 1991. Also owned and manage several golf facilities in California, New Mexico and Nevada.
After starting off slowly in March '91 on the Champions Tour, he finished the year winning three tournaments, and finished second five times, averaging $40,000-per-start in 22 starts. He also matched the Senior Tour record low round with his 9-under-par 61 during the second round at the 1991 First Development Kaanapali Classic. Made more money in his first two years on the Champions Tour than in his 20 years on the PGA Tour... Despite missing four months of the season while recuperating from prostate cancer surgery on June 23rd of 1997, still finished among the top-31 of the money-winners. Had accomplished that feat 11 years in a row before the streak was broken in 2002.
