Grew up in Augusta, Ga., serving as a caddie at both Augusta National GC and Augusta Country Club. Played prep football at Laney High with former New York Jets star Emerson Boozer...Inducted into the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame in Jan. 1994. Nicknamed "Big Boy" by his fellow professionals. His two oldest children have worked as his caddie in the past. He and his wife adopted an infant son and daughter early in 1995, and adopted two infant sons in 1999. Played on the PGA Tour between 1971 and 1988, playing in 403 events. Never won, was runner-up once and 3rd, two times. Finished in the top-10, 25 times and made 296 cuts. Had career earnings of $564,809. Joined the Champions Tour when he turned 50 in May of 1989 and immediately made a major impact winning twice and finishing 12th on the money list, despite starting halfway through the year. By the time May of 1990 rolled around he made in Champions career earnings the same amount he made for working 18 years on the PGA Tour. At the start of the Senior PGA Championship, Dent has played in 545 Champions Tour events.
2011 Notes: Played in just one event, finishing T2 with his partner, Jim Albus, in the Demaret Division of the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf in April.
2012 Notes: Lone appearance was in April when he teamed with Jim Albus to finish T4th in the unofficial Demaret Division at the Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf.
