Jim Gallagher, Jr.

His father, Jim, a PGA club professional, began teaching him to play golf at age 2. Comes from a golfing family, as his sister Jackie Gallagher-Smith plays on the LPGA Tour, and his brother, Jeff, qualified to play on the PGA Tour in 1996. During his youth, basketball was his favorite sport, but he was dealt a serious blow when he was cut from his high school basketball team when he was a sophomore; he ultimately devoted more his time to golf.
Qualified for the PGA Tour on his first attempt in 1983, but finished his first year 148th on the money list. Lost his card at the end of 1987 season and played only on sponsor exemptions. A tie for second at the Greater Milwaukee Open, helped him finish 124th on the money list, enough to keep his card for the 1989 season. Had a solid season in 1989, winning $265,809 to finish 50th on the money list. In that year he married Cissye Meeks, who once played on the LPGA. Won the 1990 Greater Milwaukee Open in a playoff over Ed Dougherty and Billy Mayfair.
Member of the PGA Tour with full playing privileges in 1984, 1986-87, 1989-99, and played at least 15 events annually between 1984 and 2002. Played 547 events and made 306 cuts, recording 51 top-10 finishes with five victories and nine runner-up finishes and earnings of just over $6 million.
In 2002, served a stint as a golf commentator for USA and CNBC. Also served as part-owner of Gallagher-Meeks Cotton Co. in Greenwood, Miss.
2011 Notes: Made his Champions Tour debut in 2011 at the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic in March and finished T-45 at Fallen Oak. In the top-ten twice in 17 starts during his rookie season, best finish T4th at the Dick's Sporting Goods Open.
2012 Notes: Made 20 starts with no top-tens, with his best showing a T17th in his home state of Mississippi at the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic.
2013 Notes: Made 19 starts with two top-tens, best showing T-8th at the Toshiba Classic. Finished 60th on the money list and 59th in the Schwab Rankings.
2014 Notes: In 12 starts, his best finish was a T36 at the Dick's Sporting Goods Open. Finished 117th on the money list.
