Justin Leonard

Leonard grew up playing at Royal Oaks CC in Dallas with Harrison Frazar, his roommate at the University of Texas. Winner of the 1992 U.S. Amateur Championship. Won the 1994 NCAA championship at 17-under-par 271, equaling the NCAA record set by Phil Mickelson in 1992. One of the few to earn a PGA Tour card without a trip to Q-School. He did it by playing on invitations after turning professional and finishing 126th on the 1994 money list. Since his first start, he has made 472 starts, winning 12 times, been runner-up 17, and third 5 times. He has 93 top-10 finishes and has earned $30.7 million.
Member of the 1992 USA Walker Cup Team. Member of 1997, '99 & 2008 Ryder Cup teams. Member of the 1996, '98, 2003, '05 & '09 President Cup teams.
In 2011, he made 14 of 26 cuts with only one top-10 finish for the second straight year. From 1994-2009 he had at least two top 10s each season. He entered the Wyndham Championship outside the top 125 in the FedExCup standings at No. 142. He worked his way inside the top 125 in the FedExCup standings during the final round at the Wyndham Championship until a bogey on his final hole dropped him to No. 126 and out of the Playoffs for the first time in his career.
2012 Notes: He had a pair of top-10 finishes in 26 PGA Tour starts. He finished T-8th at the Farmers Insurance Open in his first start at the event since 2008, when he was fifth. He earned his second top-10 of the season, a T-5th at the Reno-Tahoe Open. Despite a T-19th at the Wyndham Championship, they came up short of getting into the FedEx Cup Playoffs (finished 147) for the second year.
2013 Notes: Played 24 events and made 19 cuts; best finish was T-4th at Tampa Bay. They finished 86th in the FedEx Cup Playoffs and 119th on the money list.
2014 Notes: In 22 PGA Tour starts, made the cut 16 times, with two top-10s, T-6th at Mayakoba and T-3rd at the Humana Challenge. He missed the cut at The Barclays to end his season at 120th in the FedExCup standings and 117th on the money list.
2015 Notes: He made the cut in just eight of 22 PGA Tour starts, failing to record a top-10 finish for the first time since joining the Tour in 1994. A T-14th at the Wyndham Championship, which included four rounds in the 60s for the first time since the 2014 Humana Challenge, marked his only top-25 finish. He ended the season 183rd in the FedExCup Standings, the lowest finish of his career. He used his one-time career money exemption for the 2015-16 season.
2016 Notes: Played in 13 PGA Tour events. Best finish T-16th at the Northern Trust Open and T-18th at the Valspar Championship.
Played in one event in 2016, T-58th at the Valero Texas Open, and took up announcing full-time with Golf Channel.
2022 Notes: He was T-61st in the Senior Players Championship, his first PGA Tour Champions start. He played in four events, best finish T-14th at the Furyk & Friends.
2023 Notes: Played in 19 PGA Tour Champions events with five top-ten finishes. He was 27th in the Schwab rankings and 28th on the money list with earnings of $872,298. Making his debut at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai, he finished T-10th. He opened with rounds of 66-67 before closing with 71. Making his fifth start on the PGA Tour Champions, it was his first top-10. He posted bookend 66s to finish T-6th at the Chubb Classic, his second consecutive top-10 to start the season. He closed with 4-under 67 after opening with back-to-back 70s to finish 10th at the Invited Celebrity Classic. Making his first start in the American Family Insurance Championship, Leonard fired a tournament record 10-under, marking his lowest score across all Tour' in relation to par and 18-hole lead by three hots. Ensuing rounds of 69-74 resulted in a T-4th finish, seven shots back of the winner Steve Stricker. Birdied the par-5 18th hole in the final round to force a sudden death playoff with Thailandâ??s Thongchai Jaidee. Unable to match Jaideeâ??s par on the fourth extra hole, claimed runner-up honors and his fifth top-10 finish of the season.Was T-24th in the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship.
2024 Notes: Opened his 2024 season with a T-8th finish at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai after shooting 68-66-70.
