Maria Torres

She grew up riding horses in Puerto Rico and began playing golf at age 7. Graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Family, Youth, and Community Science; had five wins, set the school record for lowest single-season scoring average (71.71 in 2017) and was named SEC Golfer of the Year (2016).
She represented Puerto Rico at the 2015 Pan American Games and was T-16th in the women's golf tournament. She has also played for Puerto Rico in the Women's World Amateur Team Championships.
On Septemeber 20th, 2017 was at home in Puerto Rico getting ready for the second stage of LPGA Q-school when Hurrican Maria hit the island. Her family home lost power and water and they moved to her grandmother's house which had a generator. Spent two weeks living with eight others there but managed to get her game ready for Q-School. Had difficulty getting a flight to Florida but arrived and earedn a trip to the final stage where she won a three-hole aggregate playoff at the Final Qualifying Tournament to secure the 20th qualifying card and earn Priority List Category 12 status for the 2018 season. She became the first Puerto Rican to earn full membership on the LPGA Tour.
2018 Notes: Played in 24 LPGA Tour events making 14 cuts with two top-ten finishes. Was T-7th at the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic, shooting a final round 66 and T-8th at the CP Women's Open. Was 76th on the money list with $220,298 and 46th in the Race to CME.
2019 Notes: Best finish, T-15th at the LPGA Mediheal Championship.
