Mark Foster

After a highly successful amateur career, which included back-to-back English Amateur Championships in 1994 and 1995, progress proved difficult. Gained a card in 1996 but played just eight European Tour events after suffering a back abscess. Underwent surgery in 1998 and got his career back on track in 1999 but missed the cut at Qualifying School. A product of Worksop, home of his friend, Lee Westwood. Coached by Peter Cowen. Topped the Challenge Tour Rankings in 2001 after two wins. Claimed his first European Tour title at the beginning of 2003, winning the dunhill championship in South Africa after a six-man play-off. Was a member of the victorious 1995 Walker Cup team at Royal Porthcawl alongside Stephen Gallacher, Padraig Harrington and David Howell.

Enjoyed his most successful season to date in 2011, finishing 32nd in the Race to Dubai after four top tens, including two runner-up finishes, at the Alstom Open de France and the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, where he was knocked out of a five-man play-off. Between 2002 and 2016 he has played 417 European Tour events making 237 cuts. Along with his Dunhill Championship win in South Africa, he has three runner-up finishings and a total of 21 top-ten finishes. At the end of 2016 he was forced back to Q-school and he would regain his European Tour playing rights by claiming the 23rd card at the Qualifying School at the end of the year.
2017 Notes: Was T-6th at the Open de Portugal and the next week was T-8th at the Rocco Forte Open.
