Mi Hyun Kim

Shot 134 and was medalist at the Jacksonville, Fla., sectional, qualifying for the 2011 U.S. Women's Open. Her two-round total of 134 was the lowest score of all sectional qualifying sites.
Started golfing late at age 11. Originally wanted to be a swimmer but wasn't big enough to compete on a national level. Looking around for another sport she could be competitive in, she found golf, and before long became pretty good. Her father ran a shoe company. As his daughter became one of the best amateur golfers in Korea, he dedicated more of the family resources to helping her out. He was able to convince a Seoul Country Club to allow her to become a member early on, which gave her a chance she might not have otherwise have had to practice on a high-quality course.
Near the end of 2008 got married to Won Hee Lee, who was a Korean judo star and won a gold medal at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
By 22, she had won nine times on the Korean LPGA, and 15 times overall including amateur events. Decided to try the LPGA tour but she did not have the benefit of a big sponsorship. Tied for 12th at LPGA Qualifying School in 1998 and was on her way.
In 1999, her rookie year, she would travel from tournament to tournament in a van with her parents. To save money, they would stay in economy motels and eat in their room. Was named Rolex Rookie of the Year on the strength of two wins and 12 total top-10 finishes; became a Rolex First-Time Winner at the State Farm Rail Classic, then won again a month later at the First Union Betsy King Classic.
In 2000, defeated Jeong Jang on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff at the Safeway LPGA Golf Championship to claim her first playoff victory; the very next week, lost in a sudden-death playoff to Lorie Kane at the New Albany Golf Classic; crossed the $1 million mark in career earnings; won two events on the Korea LPGA (KLPGA) Tour.
In 2001, finished second three timesâ??lost to Annika Sorenstam in a one-hole, sudden-death playoff at The Office Depot, lost to Rosie Jones in a one-hole, sudden-death playoff at the Kathy Ireland Championship, and the Weetabix Women's British Open, where she placed behind Se Ri Pak to mark the first time South Koreans have finished one-two in an LPGA major championship; recorded the second hole-in-one of her LPGA career at the First Union Betsy King Classic; posted a career-low 62 (-9) during the final round of the Jamie Farr Kroger Classic; crossed the $2 million mark in career earnings after the Weetabix Women's British Open.
In 2002, won back-to-back events, both in Ohioâ??Giant Eagle LPGA Classic and Wendy's Championship; posted three runner-up finishes; crossed the $3 million mark in career earnings after her win at the Wendy's Championship; won the State Farm LPGA Series Bonus Pool.
In 2003, best finish was a tie for third at the Kellogg-Keebler Classic.
In 2004, best finish of the season was a tie for second at the Wegmans Rochester; crossed the $4 million mark in career earnings with a tie for sixth at the Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill.
In 2005, recorded nine top-10 finishes, including a season-best runner-up finish at the CJ Nine Bridges Classic; crossed the $5 million mark in career earnings with a tie for 12th at the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic.
In 2006, recorded victories at the inaugural Ginn Clubs & Resorts Open and the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic, where she defeated Natalie Gulbis in a three-hole, sudden-death playoff; crossed the $6 million mark in career earnings with a fifth-place finish at the Wegmans LPGA.
In 2007, recorded her eighth LPGA career victory at the SemGroup Championship, where she defeated Juli Inkster in a one-hole, sudden-death playoff; donated $100,000 to the United Way Greensburg Disaster Relief Fund to aid tornado victims in Kansas following her victory; crossed the $7 million mark in career earnings with a tie for second at the LPGA Corning Classic.
In 2008, best finish was a tie for third at the LPGA Corning Classic, where she crossed the $8 million mark in career earnings; recorded three additional top-10 finishes - all at major championships - including a tie for sixth at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, a tie for 10th at the McDonald's LPGA Championship and a tie for sixth at the U.S. Women's Open; led the Tour with a 26.95 putting average.
In 2009, best finish was a tie for ninth at the HSBC Women's Champions. At the start of the 2009 season, announced that she was pregnant with her first child. She only played until June, then took the rest of the year off. In November, she gave birth to her son; played her first event back at 2010 KIA Classic.
In 2010, best finish was a tie for 28th at the Kia Classic.
