Miguel Angel Martin

Martin was born in Huelva, Spain, and he started out as a caddie and became a self-taught player, who turned professional in 1981. Graduated from Qualifying School in 1983 and had his breakthrough victory in the Open de France in 1992. Had to wait another five years for his second victory in the Heineken Classic in Perth, Australia. Claimed his third European Tour title in 1999, edging out Welshman David Park at the sixth hole of sudden-death in the Moroccan Open. With Santiago Luna, he helped Spain to second place in the World Cup in Malaysia that same season. Once scored a 59 in tournament play, the 1987 South Argentine Open.
He has been a member of the European Tour for more than 20 seasons, and in 2005, he became the first Continental European golfer to make 500 appearances on the tour when he teed off in the 2005 Deutsche Bank Players - Championship of Europe. Played the tour between 1983 and 2006 in 545 events, with 49 top-10s and earnings of euro3,167,343. His best finish on the Order of Merit was 17th in 1996, and he has won three European Tour events. He was also a member of the winning Spanish team at the 2000 Alfred Dunhill Cup.
In 1997, Martin earned a spot in the Ryder Cup European Team via the money list but was forced to withdraw after failing to recover from a wrist injury sustained in July.
In 2014, he went on a run of three consecutive top 10s, starting with a T-9th at the Travis Perkins Masters, then a T-3rd at the Russian Open Golf Championship (Senior), and, finally, a second place at the Senior Open de Portugal, where he was surpassed by Tim Thelen by just one stroke. During his second season on the Senior Tour in 2013, he finished runner-up twice in the Travis Perkins plc Senior Masters and MCB Tour Championship. He recorded nine top-10 finishes overall to end the season in fourth place on the Order of Merit.

2018 Notes: Played in 17 Staysure Tour events with six top-10 finishes. T-8th at the Sharjah Senior Golf Masters, T-9th at the Senior Italian Open. Was T-2nd at the Swiss Open, one shot back of winner Jean-Francois Remesy. Was T-4th at the Willow Senior Golf Classic, three back of winner Peter Fowler. T-4th at the MCB Tour Championship - Seychelles. Finished 19th on the Staysure Tour Order of Merit with euro127,478.
2019 Notes: Played in 18 Legends Tour events with five top-ten finishes. Was 14th in the order of merit. T-33rd at the Jordan Mixed Open, missed cut at the Senior PGA Championship, T-3rd at the Senior Italian Open, and T-4th at the Senior Open Hauts de France. Was T-7th at the Murhof Legends â?? Austrian Senior Open, T-6th at the MCB Tour Championship - Seychelles and finished the year T-7th at the MCB Tour Championship - Mauritius.
