Mikael Lundberg

Lundberg was born in Helsingborg, Sweden. Introduced to golf by his father Lars, a four handicapper. Got down to scratch by the age of 17, played for Sweden?s Boys side in 1988 and made the full national team three years later. He represented Sweden in the 1994 Eisenhower Trophy and turned professional in 1995. He spent several years on the developmental Challenge Tour, where he was victorious in the 1997 Himmerland Open, and won a place on the main European Tour via a fourth-place finish on the 2000 Challenge Tour Rankings. After two steady seasons on tour, a 137th-place finish on the 2003 Order of Merit cost him his European Tour card and he returned to the Challenge Tour in 2004. Finished ninth in the 2007 Challenge Tour Rankings, winning the Italian Federation Cup in the process. Made relatively slow progress over the first five years of his professional career, but first qualified for The European Tour through the Challenge Tour in 2000
Ended a long wait for his third European Tour title with victory at the 2014 Lyoness Open, where he overcame home favorite Bernd Wiesberger in a play-off courtesy of a 40-foot birdie putt on the first extra hole. Had ensured another season of European Tour action by claiming the fifth card at the Qualifying School Final Stage the year before. That was the third year running he earned his place on The Race to Dubai through the School. His first two European Tour titles both came at Le Meridien Moscow Country Club, in the 2005 Russian Open and then in the 2008 Inteco Russian Open Golf Championship.
Has played a total of 321 events on the European Tour, making 151 cuts. He has earned over euro2.7 million. This year's U.S. Open will be his first major championship start.
