Got into golf at 14 after fracturing a leg. Worked as a club professional for five years at Oak Tree and PGA West. Has made it through Q-School six times. Is the only player who has been the medalist at the PGA Tour Qualifying School twice. First time was in 1988 and the second time was in 1993 when he was co-medalist with Ty Armstrong and Dave Stockton Jr. Father-in-law is baseball Hall of famer Ralph Kiner.
Competed on the Nationwide Tour in 1998 and between 2003 and 2009. In 136 starts won three times, including 1998 Knoxville Open and San Jose Open. Had career earnings of $374,577, best year was 1998 when he finished 2nd on the Nationwide Tour money list with $169,389 in earnings. Played full time on the PGA Tour in 1989 and between 1992 and 2005, in 391 events played, best finish was runner-up in the 1995 Byron Nelson Classic. Was third three times and finished in the top-10, 12 times. Had earnings of just under $2.2 million. Brother, Jeff, now a member of the Champions Tour, was the 1999 PGA Professional National Champion.
