Sam Horsfield

Horsfield, a native of Manchester, England, grew up on a golf course, but soccer dominated his childhood. He played soccer for the Manchester United Academy and Blackburn Rovers Academy, two high-level English clubs, before moving to Florida.
Horsfield took an accomplished junior resume with him to the University of Florida, where he spent just one year. At age 13, Horsfield shot a 59 from the men's tees of his home course, Highlands Reserve, measuring around 6,700 yards. Even with the so-called "Adios" markers stretching the course to 7,200 yards, he shot a 58 during the summer of 2014.
In 2011, he won the Florida State Boys' Junior Championship and then the Orlando City Amateur for the first of three consecutive times. In high school, he won the 2013 FHSAA 3A State Championship before winning the 2013 Florida State Amateur at age 16, becoming the youngest champion since 1920. He also triumphed at the New Year's Invitational at St. Petersburg Country Club twice, in 2014 and 2015.
Horsfield also has a decorated USGA championship resume for a teenager. He earned medalist honors at the 2013 U.S. Junior Amateur and advanced to the semifinals, falling to runner-up Davis Riley. Horsfield qualified for the U.S. Amateur Public Links for three consecutive years from 2012 to 2014 and reached the rounds of 64, 16, and 32, respectively. He qualified for the U.S. Amateur twice and advanced to match play on both occasions. In the 2014 U.S. Amateur, Horsfield reached the round of 64, and went one step further in 2015, making the round of 32.
Horsfield qualified for the U.S. Open in 2015 at Chambers Bay but missed the cut. He did it again in 2016 at Oakmont and missed the cut.
After college, he decided to come home to England and progressed through all three stages of Qualifying School to earn his European Tour card for 2018.
2018 Notes: He played in 29 European Tour events, making 17 cuts and five top-ten finishes. He was 2nd at the Tshwane Open, two shots back of winner George Coetzee. He made it to the consolation match at the ISPS Handa World Super 6 Perth and lost that match to Lucas Herbert 3 & 1 to finish 4th. He was T-5th at the Sky Sports British Masters, five shots back of winner Eddie Pepperell. He finished 52nd in the Race to Dubai with euor775,241.
2019 Notes: He played in 22 European Tour events, making 17 cuts and two top-ten finishes. He was 85th in the Race to Dubai with winnings of euro433,276. In back-to-back weeks, he was T-3rd at the D+D Real Czech Masters, three shots back of winner Thomas Pieters. The next week, he was T-10th at the Scandinavian Invitation, shooting a final-round 62.
2020 Notes: He played in 18 European Tour events, making ten cuts and four top-ten finishes. He was 29th in the Race to Dubai, with winners of euro484,839. It was a breakout year for him, as he won twice in a span of two weeks, first at the Hero Open by a shot over Thomas Detry and then at the Celtic Classic by two over Thomas Detry, who finished as runner-up again. He finished the season with a 63rd-place finish at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
2021 Notes: Played in 21 European Tour events, making 17 cuts with six top-ten finishes. Was T-8th at the Magical Kenya Open. T-3rd at the Kenya Savannah Classic, a shot back of the van Tonder/Janewattananond playoff. Was 4th at the Gran Canaria Lopesan Open, six shots back of winner Garrick Higgo. Finished with rounds of 66-68 at the BMW International to finish T-5th. He was T-6th at the Cazzo Open, five shots back of the playoff between Nacho Elvira/Justin Harding. Finished the European season with a T-9th at the DP World Tour Championship. He finished 46th in the Race to Dubai, earning euro536,963.
2022 Notes: He played in 10 DP World Tour events, making 7 cuts with two top-ten finishes, and was 34th in the Race to Dubai, earning euro1,000,769. Was T-4th at the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic, four back of the Viktor Hovland/Richard Bland playoff. Won the Soudal Open, his third victory on the DP World Tour. He did it with a final round 68 to beat Ryan Fox and Yannik Paul by two shots. He became the first English winner on the DP World Tour in 2022. After missing the cut at the PGA Championship, joined the LIVgolf Series. Missed the cut at the U.S. Open and Open Championship.
2023 Notes: Missed the cut at the Abu Dhabi Championship, T-59th at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, and withdrew from the PIF Saudi International.
2024 Notes: T-22nd at the IRS Prima Malaysian Open.
