A teenage prodigy who made his international amateur debut at age 14, Lyle was a prolific winner before turning professional in 1977. Won 18 European Tour events and six on the PGA Tour. Taught by his late father, Alex, a long-time professional at Hawkstone Park.
The two-time major champion ended a 19-year wait for a tournament title by winning the inaugural ISPS Handa Senior World Championship in 2011. Inaugurated into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2012 for his achievements across a great career. Rolled back the years with a vintage performance at the 2009 Masters, finishing T-20th. It was his best finish at the Masters since he won in 1988, and was the highlight of a season in which he also finished T-6th at the European Senior Tour's season-opening Aberdeen Brunei Senior Masters and T-13th at the Senior Open Championship. Was one of Europe's big-five players during the 1980s, along with Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer and Ian Woosnam. Became the first Briton to win the British Open since Tony Jacklin in 1969 when he lifted the Claret Jug in 1985 at Royal St. George's. Three years later, became the first Briton to win the Masters when he triumphed at Augusta National in 1988, famously hitting a stunning 7-iron from a fairway bunker at the last hole to set up a winning birdie.

Notes: Turned in his best performance in 19 starts in July when he was on the leader board throughout the Senior Open Championship at Royal Birkdale and eventually finished 7th. It marked his best outing at the PGA Tour Champions' only overseas major and his best outing on the tour since the 2012 Senior PGA Championship (T-4th). Made the cut for the 16th time at the Masters, finishing T-54th. Played his 35th consecutive British Open and finished 84th at Muirfield.
Notes: Made 14 PGA Tour Champions starts, with his best showing coming in June when he finished T-14th at the Encompass Championship. Finished T-44th at the Masters and missed the cut at the British Open. Also competed at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship on the European Tour, but missed the cut.
Notes: Missed the cut at the Masters and British Open but finished T-9th at the Senior PGA Championship. Made a strong run for his first PGA Tour Champions title in April when he teamed with Ian Woosnam to finish 2nd at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf. They led by two strokes heading into the final round but were unable to hold off a late charge by Billy Andrade and Joe Durant, who won by three.
Notes: Best finish was T-17th at the Principal Charity. He missed the cut at the Masters and at the British Open. Played in 10 PGA Tour Champions Tour and finished 94th in the Schwab ranking and money list.
Notes: Played in his 36th Masters and missed the cut. On PGA Tour Champions, had one top-25 finish, a T-22nd at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf teamed with Ian Woosnam. That would be his best finish in nine starts.
Notes: Played 14 PGA Tour Champions events and finished 80th in the Schwab Cup rankings. Finished T-24th at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai and Insperity Invitational. Missed the cut at the Masters. Played in his 43rd British Open, 41 consecutive since 1977, the most of anyone in the field.
Notes: Played in 14 PGA Tour Champions events and finished 73rd in the Schwab Cup rankings. Best finish as T-6th at the Chubb Classic, two strokes out of the Jimenez/Browne/Langer playoff. Made his 38th appearance at the Masters but did not make the cut.
Notes: Best finish, a T-24th at the Morocco Champions. Missed the cut in the November Masters.
