Shaun Norris

Grew up playing all sports in South Africa as a child and excelled at rugby and cricket as well as golf, but his father made him choose one to focus on when he attended high school. Prior to that, he plied his trade on the Sunshine Tour after turning professional in 2002, enjoying his best season in 2008 when he won the Africa Open to finish 39th on the Order of Merit.
Admits it has been a long, tough road but the decision paid off when he won the 16th card at the Qualifying School in 2010. But 2011 proved to be a long, tough road as he played in 19 events and only making the cut in 4 of them. Did have a top-ten, T-8th at the Africa Open but lost his card when he finished 220th in the order of merit with only euro43,551 in earnings. Added another top-ten with a T-8th at the 2015 Alfred Dunhill Championship and another top-ten in 2016 with a T-10th at the True Thailand Classic.
2016 Notes: Found some success playing in Asia and the Japan Tour where he played in 21 events. He made the cut in 12 of them. But in his 2nd start at the Myanmar Open, he won it by 4 shots and found a place he could succeed in. He won Yen29,534,371 ($262,974) to finish the year 43rd on their money list.
His brother sometimes caddies for him which he admits is a lot of fun and a great help, and when he is not playing golf he enjoys hanging out with friends and playing pool. Says his motto in life is "play golf all day and then go and have fun".
2017 Notes: Played in 29 events all around the world. Played on the Japan Golf Tour in 20 events, and won the JGT Championship. Made the cut in 14 events and was in the top-ten, five times. Along with the win had a runner-up finish at the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup. He earned Yen82,263,143 ($751,776) to finish 7th on the Japan money list.
2018 Notes: Was runner-up at the SMBC Singapore Open. Was T-5th at the Leopalace21 Myanmar Open also T-4th at the Kansai Open Golf championship, and T-3rd at the SEGA Sammy Cup. Was T-8th in the South African Sun Royal Spa Swazi Challenge and then back on the Japan Golf Tour was T-5th ISPS Handa Match Play, T-4th Asia-Pacific Diamond Cup, T-9th at the Asia-Pacific Diamond Cup. In Japan had this 3 event stretch, 2nd at the Japan Open, win at Heiwa PGA Championship, and T-3rd at the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament.
2018 Japan PGA Tour Summary: Tournaments Entered - 16; In Money - 15; Top-10 Finishes - 8; Scoring Average - 70.26 (Rank 2nd); Money - Yen101,113,276 ($906,114) (Rank 2nd); Best Finish: Win Heiwa PGM Championship.
2019 Japan PGA Tour Summary: Tournaments Entered - 22; In Money - 19; Top-10 Finishes - 10; Scoring Average - 70.44 (Rank 2nd); Money - Yen145,044,149 ($1,367,696) (Rank 2nd); Best Finish: Win Tokai Classic. Also played in 10 European Tour events making 5 cuts, best finish T-30th at the Maybank Championship and Saudi International.
2020 Notes: With no play in Japan, played all of his golf on the European Tour. In 13 starts in Europe made 9 cuts with two top-ten finishes. He was 63rd in the Race to Dubai with earnings of euro438,096. Was T-6th at the Abu Dhabi Championship five shots back of winner Lee Westwood. At the Joburg Open was 3rd, three shots back of winner Joachim B Hansen. Ended the season T-23rd at the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.
2020/21 Japan PGA Tour Summary: Tournaments Entered - 19; In Money - 16; Top-10 Finishes - 5; Scoring Average - 70.48 (Rank T-6th); Money - Yen75,813,047 ($588,108) (Rank 12th); Best Finish: Win GOLF PARTNER PRO-AM and Japan Open Golf Championship. With the win at the Japan Open, he gained an exemption into the 2022 Open Championship at St. Andrews.
Also in 2021, Norris was 3rd at the Joburg Open, T-5th at the BMW International
2022 Notes: Was T-3rd at the Joburg Open and was T-9th at the Ras al Khaimah Championship. Norris won for the first time on the European Tour at the Steyn City Championship in South Africa. With his brother on the bag, he shot a final round 70 to win by three shots over Dean Burmester. FInished T-71st at the PGA Championship and missed the cut at the U.S. Open
