Stephen Dodd

Started by searching for golf balls as an 11-year-old at Brynhill Golf Club in Wales before enjoying a successful amateur career - the highlight being a victory in The Amateur Championship in 1989. That allowed him to play in the 1990 Masters Tournament at Augusta National, where he played with Sandy Lyle and Curtis Strange.
The quiet-spoken Welshman enjoyed a sensational 2005, notching his first and second European Tour victories, playing a part in Great Britain and Ireland's Seve Trophy success over Continental Europe at The Wynyard Club, and winding up his campaign with a glorious victory alongside Bradley Dredge in the WGC Algarve World Cup in Portugal. Finished tied 15th on his debut in the Volvo Masters in 2004 and used that performance as the springboard for his European Tour breakthrough in the following week's Volvo China Open, the first event of the 2005 season. He followed that with a second success in May when he won the Nissan Irish Open in a playoff with David Howell. The two victories and four other top-10 finishes helped him to a career-high 17th place on the Order of Merit. He was not a stranger to success in his amateur days. He won the Amateur Championship at Royal Birkdale in 1989, the same season that Great Britain and Ireland pulled off a spectacular Walker Cup victory over the United States at Peachtree in Georgia. A Nottingham Forest fan, he dislikes flying but regards it as a "necessary evil."
He played full-time on the European Tour between 1995 and 2013, played in 372 events, and made 200 cuts. He has 26 top 10s, including three wins, and earned euro4,329,718.
He turned 50 in time to play in the Senior Open Championship at Carnoustie, where he finished T-14th. Just before that, to get ready for senior golf played on the EuroPro Tour and won the HotelPlanner.com Open, beating Adam Hodkinson in a playoff.
