Stephen Dodd

Started out by searching for golf balls as an 11-year-old at Brynhill Golf Club in Wales, before enjoying a successful amateur career - the highlight being a victory in The Amateur Championship in 1989. That gave him the opportunity to play in the 1990 Masters Tournament at Augusta National, where he played with Sandy Lyle and Curtis Strange.
The quiet-spoken Welshman enjoyed a sensational 2005, notching his first and second European Tour victories, playing a part in Great Britain and Ireland's Seve Trophy success over Continental Europe at The Wynyard Club and winding up his campaign with a glorious victory alongside Bradley Dredge in the WGC Algarve World Cup in Portugal. Finished tied 15th on his debut in the Volvo Masters in 2004 and used that performance as the springboard for his European Tour breakthrough in the following week's Volvo China Open, the first event of the 2005 season. Followed that with a second success in May when he won the Nissan Irish Open in a playoff with David Howell. The two victories, along with four other top-10 finishes, helped him to a career-high 17th place on the Order of Merit. Was not a stranger to success in his amateur days, winning the Amateur Championship at Royal Birkdale in 1989, the same season that Great Britain and Ireland pulled off a spectacular Walker Cup victory over the United States at Peachtree in Georgia. A Nottingham Forest fan, he has a dislike of flying but regards it as a "necessary evil." Coached by Terry Hanson, professional at Cardiff.
Played pretty much full-time on the European Tour between 1995 and 2013, played in 364 events and made 200 cuts. Has 26 top 10s, including three wins, he has earned euro 4,372,743.
Turned 50 in time to play in the Senior Open Championship at Carnoustie, where he finished T-14th. Just before that, in order to get ready for senior golf played on the EuroPro Tour and won the HotelPlanner.com Open, beating Adam Hodkinson in a playoff.
2016 European Seniors Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 8; top-10 finishes - 3; Euro121,505 (ranked 7th); Best finish, winner Senior Italian Open.
2017 European Staysure Seniors Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 14; top-10 finishes - 5; Euro122,218 (ranked 10th); Best finish, winner Farmfoods European Senior Masters.

He was T-5th at the Austrian Senior Open, T-7th at the Sinclair Invitational, and T-8th at the Senior Open Hauts de France. Missed the cut at the Senior PGA Championship and U.S. Senior Open, was T-18th at the Senior Open Championship.
2021 Notes: The highlight of his senior career was winning the Senior Open Championship, held at Sunningdale G.C. just outside of London. Dodd shot a third-round 62 and on Sunday made birdie on the final hole to win by a shot over Miguel Angel Jimenez. With the win he became a full-time member of the PGA Tour Champions, he played in five more events on that tour and his best finish was T-38th at the Dominion Energy Charity. Before that played in seven events on the European Legends Tour and thanks to the win at Sunningdale was 1st on the Order of Merit with euo362,230 in earnings. He also finished T-7th at the Senior Italian Open and at the Farmfoods European Senior Masters.
