Tim Herron

Nicknamed "Lumpy" on his first day working at a golf course in Wayzata, Minn. Nickname stood at the golf course, but not at school ("There already was a 'Lumpy' at school"). He says ice fishing was a way to pass the time during Minnesota winters. Sister Alissa won the 1999 U.S. Mid-Amateur and is a three-time Minnesota Amateur champion.
Herron was a first-team All-American in 1992 and 1993 at the University of New Mexico, and in 1993 played on the U.S. Walker Cup Team, going 3-0 at Interlachen in his home state of Minnesota. He earned his PGA Tour card with a 12th place finish at 1995 Q-School. He won his seventh start on the PGA Tour, taking the 1996 Honda Classic wire-to-wire after an opening-round 62. Grandfather Carson Lee Herron played in the 1934 U.S. Open and won state titles in Minnesota and Iowa. His father, Carson, played in the 1963 U.S. Open. Herron is one of only two players who defeated Tiger Woods in the U.S. Amateur. Herron beat Tiger in the second round in 1992.
After turning professional in 1994, he played on the Korn Ferry Tour.

1995 Korn Ferry Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 27; in money - 21; top-10 finishes - 6; scoring average 70.44 (ranked 11th); money $69,534 (ranked 25th); best finish, T3rd, Mississippi Gulf Coast Classic. He finished T9th in PGA Tour Q-School, getting his Tour card for 1996.
He started playing full-time on the PGA Tour in 1996 and played through 2020 when he turned 50. Played in 567 PGA Tour events making 364 cuts with 59 top-ten finishes. Also, with his four wins, he was runner-up seven times and six times third. He had total earnings of $19,382,388.
2020 & 2021 Notes: Played in 34 PGA Tour Champions events with three top-tens and finished 39th in the Charles Schwab Cup. On turning 50, he played his first event at the 2020 Chubb Classic finishing T-42nd. His best finish in 2020 was T-12th at Sanford International. In 2021 he was T-3rd at the Principal Charity Classic. He held a four-shot lead entering the final round but shot 76 to finish two back of winner Stephen Ames. He was T-9th at the Shaw Charity Classic, but the following week was T-2nd at the Boeing Classic. Despite a final round 67, Herron was a shot back of winner Rod Pampling who shot 66 in the final round. The end of Herron's season came at the TimberTech when he shot 72 to finish T-14th.
2022 Notes: Played in 22 PGA Tour Champions events with one top-ten finish. Was 56th in the Schwab rankings and 56th on the money list with earnings of $340,442. Best finish T-10th at the Shaw Charity Classic.
2023 Notes: Best finish T-19th at the Cologuard Classic.
