Tim Thelen

Thelen, a native of Albany, Minnesota, played college golf at Foothills Junior College and Houston Baptist University where he was a teammate of Colin Montgomerie. Winner of the 2000 and 2003 PGA Professional Championship and the 2009 Assistant PGA Professional Championship. He played in nine PGA Championships but failed to make the cut in any of them. Winner, 2001 PGA Professional Player of the Year award. He was Inspired to join the European Senior Tour by his close friend, the late Bob Boyd, who was a member from 2005 to 2010 until his death in February 2011.
After turning 50, Thelen was the medalist at the European Seniors Tour Qualifying School in 2010. He finished 24th on the Tour's Order of Merit in 2011 and won his first Tour event at the 2012 Berenberg Bank Masters in Germany. He won his second event the following week at the Bad Ragaz PGA Seniors Open.
Enjoyed a marvelous 2012 season, winning three times and finishing third on the Order of Merit. Claimed back-to-back victories, first capturing the Berenberg Bank Masters in Germany before a week later holding off the challenge of former Ryder Cup Captains Mark James and Ian Woosnam to win the Bad Ragaz PGA Seniors Championship in Switzerland. Lost in a playoff to David J. Russell in the French Riviera Masters before adding a third title in the Fubon Senior Open. Finished third on his debut in the Berenberg Bank Masters in 2011 and then joint runner-up in the Van Lanschot Senior Open after turning 50 in June 2011. Ended the year 24th on the Order of Merit to retain his playing rights having won the Qualifying School the previous November by five strokes in Portugal after a superb closing round of 65.
Thelen benefited from a good run in the middle of his 2014 Senior Tour season, where he finished T-2nd at the Travis Perkins Masters and T-3rd at the Russian Open Golf Championship (Senior), before culminating this run of form with a victory at the Senior Open de Portugal. Enjoyed a marvelous 2013 season, winning three times and finishing third on the Order of Merit.
