Played on 1967, '69, '71, '73, '75, '77 & '79 Ryder Cup team. Served as Europe's Ryder Cup Captain in 1983, '85, '87, and '89, posting a 2-1-1 record. . .The son of a Scunthorpe lorry driver, Jacklin began playing golf at age nine. He won the Lincolnshire Boys' Championship at 13 and three years later captured the Lincolnshire Open by a nine-stroke margin. . .He turned professional in 1962, becoming assistant to Bill Shankland at Potter's Bar. . .He announced his retirement from a regular schedule of tournament golf in 2001 after finishing tied for fourth in the Energis Senior Masters.
