Jorge Campillo

After attending the Spanish national training center as a junior, Campillo elected to play college golf at Indiana University in the United States. Campillo would go on to become one of the most successful players in the university's history. Campillo won the Big Ten "triple crown" in 2008, was named the Big Ten Golfer of the Year, Les Bolstad Award (presented to the Big Ten player with the lowest average) and a Big Ten Championship in 2008. He also played in the Palmer Cup for Europe in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Campillo won the Spanish Amateur Closed Championship in 2008 and was ranked as Spain's number one amateur for six separate years. A huge Real Madrid fan and lists Seve Ballesteros as a childhood hero.
Campillo turned professional on graduating in 2009 and began playing on invites to the European and Challenge Tours. He recorded top-10 finishes on both tours and ended the season 98th on the Challenge Tour standings. He played full-time on the Challenge Tour in 2010, improving to 87th in the standings and reaching the final stage of qualifying school, but his breakthrough year was 2011. Campillo recorded two runner-up finishes on the Challenge Tour, in the Acaya Open and the Rolex Trophy, on his way to ninth place in the rankings and promotion to the European Tour.
Campillo made a good start on the European Tour, finishing T-2nd in the Avantha Masters in New Delhi, India in February 2012. He has also finished T-2nd in the Nelson Mandela Championship in December 2013.
2014 Notes: Thanks to his runner-up finish in Nelson Mandela, he finished 99 in the Race to Dubai. He played in 31 events and made the cut 19 times.
2015 Notes: In 31 events making 20 cuts he had 3 top-ten finishes including a T-3rd at the Africa Open. Also had two other top-tens, T-7th at the Open de Espana and T-6th at the Portugal Masters. He finished 74th in the Race to Dubai.
2016 Notes: Played in 29 European Tour events making 21 cuts. Had 5 top-tens, best finish was T-4th in the Mayback Championship. Finished 42nd in the Race to Dubai for the first time playing in all three finals events including finishing T-9th at the DP World Tour Championship.
2017 Notes: Played in 27 events on the European Tour making 20 cuts. Had 3 top-ten finishes, best was T-2nd at the Tshwane Open he was 3 shots back of winner Dean Burmester. He finished 65th in the Race to Dubai.
2018 Notes: Played in 28 events on the European Tour making 24 cuts with seven top-ten finishes. He was 26th in the Race to Dubai. Got off to a good start finishing runner-up for the 4th time on the European Tour at the Maybank Championship. He was a shot back of winner Shubhankar Sharma. Also was T-4th at the NBO Oman Open and T-5th at the Spanish Open. T-3rd at the Volvo China Open, 2 back of winner Alexander Bjork. Was 5th at the Belgian Knockout, he lost to Adrian Otaegui, who won the event, in the quarterfinals. Was T-8th at the French Open and 3rd at the Dubai Duty-Free Irish Open 1 shot back of the playoff with Russell Knox and Ryan Fox. The finish got him into his first career major start at the British Open where he missed the cut. He also played at the PGA Championship, his first start in America since missing the cut in the 2010 Mayakoba Golf Classic and missed the cut in St. Louis.
2019 Notes: Played in 27 European Tour events making 18 cuts with six top-ten finishes. Was 20th in the Race to Dubai winning euro1,422,021. Was T-2nd in back-to-back weeks at the Oman Open and Qatar Masters. In Oman was a shot back of winner Kurt Kitayama who made birdie on two of his last three holes. At Qatar was 2 shots back of winner Justin Harding who made birdie on three of his last four holes and shot a back nine 31. Was 3rd at the Hero Indian Open, 2 shots back of winner Stephen Gallacher who finished with three birdies on his final four holes. Won for the first time at the Trophee Hassan II in his 229th European Tour start. Shot 71 on a tough final day to win the 2 shots. Flew over to China and the next week finished 3rd, one shot back of the Korhonen/Hebert playoff. Going into the Oman Open, Campillo was 113th in the Official World Golf Rankings after his 3rd place finish at the Volvo China Open moved up to 59th which got him his invitation to the PGA Championship. He missed the cut at Bethpage. Was T-7th at the Dubai Duty-Free Irish Open 4 shots back of winner Jon Rahm after shooting a final round 66. After that, ran into a tough patch, only making two cuts in his next eight starts. Finished his year with a T-13th finish at the Nedbank and T-18th at the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.
2020 Notes: Played in 20 European Tour events making 13 cuts with five top-ten finishes. Was 30th in the Race to Dubai winning euro523,468. Beat David Drysdale with a birdie on the second playoff hole to win the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters. His next start came 22 weeks later when he missed the cut at the PGA Championship. Had some good finishes in the fall, was T-8th at the Handa Wales Open, T-7th at the Handa UK Championship, and T-8th at the Portugal Masters. Was 3rd at the Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Showdown, ended his year with a T-57th finish at the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.
2021 Notes: Took him 13 starts before he finished in the top-ten with a 3rd place finish at the BMW International Open.
